LCD Monitors have finger strip boards which are good for gold recovery, not heaps but monitors are everywhere and quick to scrap out.
Over time you will build up a lot of finger boards which have some mlcc's, flat packs and gold flashing, all good for precious metal recovery.

Too funny Ben, tonight i was watching some TV and dismantling a bunch of flat screen monitors and depop'n the boards, quite therapeutic and like ye said not very heavy, i tear even the screen down being careful not to break the very thin bulbs because allot of the backing plates are aluminium, the sooner we get to the end of CRT's the better. Keep snippin!!

Excellent as always Ben,lots of variety there for people to see. CRT's are starting to get sparse now in UK compared to what I was getting 6 months ago, in favour of more flat screens both as tv's or monitors. Not before time too,Im going to get another hernia if I keep tackling anymore of those 32in plus monsters!

What are the little black things on the ribbons that connect to the finger boards to the LCD panel? They are black and every ribbon has one.. Very shiny, looks like black glass.

Can you explain the difference between the gold gild on computers and the gold gilding on jewelry? Thank you!

I get lots of these flstscreens with the gold finger boards. But... today, I opened one up and it had a finger board with a silvery metal. It looked just like a normal finger board except that it didn't look like gold. Would be really grateful to get some info on this. TIA

Most likely silver mate, silver is the best conductor for electricity but gold is favoured because it doesnt tarnish. Silvers used sometimes but dunno why

After you depopulate something like a green mid grade board , can it still be sold as a mid grade? I obviously don't mean completely taking everything off, but just things you do such as crystals, ics, tantalum etc. Thanks again

+zackcat276 no once you remove ic's etc then it's no longer a gradable board, it's then sold as a depopulated board if you can find a buyer or remove everything of value and throw the blank board in with scrap steel.

Ok thanks again for the help. So the board so won't even be considered a low grade?... what if you were take one tantalum here and there? Maybe it could still pass as a mid grade (if it was mid grade to begin with) or an other example may be if you were to cut the gold fingers off a projection tv slot card board but leave the rest of the board.. my main goal in all of my pain in the ass questions are to figure out the most profitable way (time wise and value wise) to scrap Ewaste, and I'm learning more from you and a very selected few other channels than I am anywhere else on the net
@eWasteBen
@eWasteBen 8 жыл бұрын
+zackcat276 well maybe low grade, small things are ok like tantalums, mlcc's etc but ic chips you should leave on it should still be mid grade.

Hi, don't forget to keep the actual black LCD glass. It is a sandwich of 2 thin outer panes and sometimes an inner pane that contains Indium-tin oxide. The spot price is US$1 to US$5 per gram depending on purity. Something of a keeper for future exploitation.

cant you just sell the monitor itself??

Late response, but for a lot of these old monitors you have to consider if anyone would even be willing to buy them. And even if you get a buyer, they won't be willing to pay more than a couple bucks for one, plus you need to deal with shipping then. Not to mention the space it takes up in storage until you find a buyer. Easier to break them down into smaller parts to be sold as scrap to a reliable/guaranteed buyer.
