Your opening sequence is adorable! I highly recommend starting with a small project as well. The MOST IMPORTANT thing is to know WHY you want to scrapbook. If you want to share stories and photos be sure that you start there. All of the pretty stuff isn’t as important if your goal is to tell your stories. I love the pretty stuff, but for me it’s there to make the stories more beautiful. DO NOT start with your wedding! DO NOT start with your wedding. (Yes I repeated this, it’s that important!) you need to learn and develop your skills before tackling an important project like that! If a photo is valuable or precious... scan it! Use a print. You may wish to use it in a different way in the future so keep your precious originals secure. When you buy a trimmer get one that will be reliable. I love the Fiskars triple track with titanium blades. It cuts straight and the blades last a reasonably long time. (Replace them with they become dull... you’ll be so happy you did!) If you’re starting, learn about the weight of paper. Thicker paper will feel better and hold up nicely in your albums. Thin paper can be used for layering but doesn’t make a good base. Connect with other scrapbookers. We LOVE to share tips/tricks and techniques. We love to answer questions. There are free and paid groups you can join and being an active part of the community is a great way to learn. Practice by copying. It’s allowed and recommended. We have a name for it: scraplifting. Give credit to your inspiration. Mostly, have fun with it. Every scrapbooker does this in a different way. You’ll find yours by trying new things!

Very good advice! I’m thinking 100 pound card stock that comes in a 25 pack. Did I say that right? Does anyone think that I should get more? I really want to go with a 12x12 size book. Ultimately, I want to do my 2 daughters books after I finish a smaller project. I have only seen pictures. My girls played sports and have several newspaper articles that I want to use. Can anyone give me some thoughts? I don’t want to make the pages crowded, I want to start with paper, pictures and newspaper articles, then go back to add some embellishments. This video is a year old, I really hope it gets someone’s attention. Thanks for sharing!

@@mastiffmom2592 I love working in 12x12. For the newspaper articles I’d suggest considering photocopying the papers as newsprint really doesn’t hold up over time and the acidity can leech into other papers and photos ruining them.

Took me awhile to learn this: There's no right or wrong! This is your story you are telling. Also, use at least a little of your own handwriting. It will be a treasure to your loved one's.
@mastiffmom25923 жыл бұрын
Oh no! This is my biggest fear. My hand writing has gotten worse over the years. The more I try to be careful the worse it looks. I need a label maker and that might be my single most expensive item. I may try to do some of my own handwriting but very, very minimum.

I agree, I have way too much supplies. I've been scrapbookin for 20 years, since my daughter was 3 months old. My advice is take your time and enjoy the craft. Also, organizational tools help keep supplies clean and to find easy.

Emilee is right about sharing your new hobby with others. Scrapbookers love to share...stories, tools, embellishments, and knowledge. They also stalk KZbin watching for new techniques, bargains, trends, so they stay in touch with the industry. Many of the manufacturers also ask scrapbookers to share what they like and dislike about certain products. Let the manufacturer know if a product isn't working correctly for you but first ask the others and see if it is just a glitch in your method. Add 2 more things to your toolkit: a ruler approximately 6" long and one that is over 12" long. I recommend that it is similar to a quilter's ruler which has 1/8" grids so you can align all sorts of things. Some papers are not cut correctly at the factory so a quick check with your ruler could solve an issue with alignment for lettering or titles. If you are comfortable with it, I would add a craft knife with a padded handle to keep your hand from cramping. They come in handy for all sorts of things like opening paper packs, trimming someone out of a photo or straightening a crooked edge. Come join us!

I'm still pretty new to this. I fell off my game during my moving process. Now I'm learning that seeing others' work is good, but time-consuming. You can't overthink it or you'll never even try it for yourself!

Good Stuff Emilee! Before you venture out and invest in any large equipment purchases (Cricuit, Silhouette, Scan and Cut, Gemini's, Big Shot, Big Kick, etc.) go to a crop, watch others use the tool and ask if you can try it. Ask what they like about, how they use it and what they would do differently.

Hi Emilee, thanks for the information. I had no idea that dollar stores, thrift stores etc had scrapbooking supplies! I laughed when you said 'never pay retail' (one of my favorite sayings). When I first started scrapping, I would buy the paper goods on sale without a specific page in mind. Now retired, I have tons to choose from! I completely agree with the 'start small' phrase. My cousin, also an avid scrapper, gave me the same advice. Finally I would like to address the comment below regarding using your handwriting on pages. My Mother & I went to her old neighborhood some years ago & took many pictures. I asked her to write down the names & addresses of the places the family used to live, which she did. Now that she is no longer with us, I treasure having her notes in my scrapbook!

I then need to get the pictures together that coincide with the articles. Once I have that I will see how much I have and that’ll determine how many albums I should break them into. Hi, I've been pondering what to get my partner for his 50th birthday. All he's come up with is 'some new socks'. Then I of this!!! I am trying to get some photos of his life up to when we got together, but his dad keeps forgetting to pass them to me. Apparently they are in a small case (how exciting as they are jumbled up). I thought more of a 'This is your Life' theme. He loves facts and figures, so I'm going to do a 'on this day' and how much various things cost. I've got until the 20th of June - 🙃. I have got some bits, including the book from Amazon. Wish me luck x

I want to make a scrapbook to gift my friend. I have no idea how to start it. I have printed out all her pictures and I actually handmade a book and designed the cover with normal paper :grimace: i know it wont be a good base but i want to use it anyway because the binding and all took a lot effort. Any advice on starting the scrapbook? I thought of dividing the book into 3 parts. 1. pics of her family, 2 school and friends pics 3. things she has created. But i have no idea what to do on the first pages. any advice would be gratefully received.
