We've used cast iron for many years. After seasoning the pan, or skillet, or pot, we cook in it. We wash the dish with mild dish soap, and rinse it in hot water. Then, we pat it dry, and put it in a hot oven for 3 or 4 minutes, then turn the oven off, and leave the pan / pot/ skillet in the oven to cool. This prevents rust. Then, we put our cast iron dish away until next time we use it.

Hello, great instructional video. Can you please share with us something about the "5 way short and tall case kits?" I like the looks of the cast iron, and would love to know what the cases are made from, and all the information about them too. Oh man I can’t wait to get mine!!! Question, have you done any research on the best paper towels? We generally just buy Costco paper towels but not happy with the lint they leave behind. Curious if anyone has tested different brands and found a good one.

I usually warm my cast iron before seasoning it. That opens the pores in the cast iron to soak and hold more oil.

Dear BROTHER Steve, Thank you for Helping us, Since I have purchased the Buzzy Wax, would it be better then Vegetable Oil, I haven't looked at the ingredients in the Buzzy wax, with it having 3 or so different oils, in it, I really never had to season Any Pan's, in my life, until I purchased your Awesome Cooking kit's, Should I save my Buzzy wax for my Firebox Pan's, I will Paceintly be waiting to purchase the Cooking Stone for my 5 way Cassore Pan. I loved your Motto, Camp Video, I think you have done a Awesome Job on the Mod improvements on the Bike, But it was sad to see the Gas line's all cracked up, I Hope and Pray 🙏 that the Huge Companies, that have been around along time, is using lower quality Pocedures, I Love and Trust Firebox Products, I know that You and everyone at Firebox, will never cut Corners, in your Pocedures. What is the rationale of cooking it for a full two hours rather then just waiting for the smoke to stop?

If the surface is not sticky after the smoke stops then consider it done. This isn't an exact science. I trust your judgment.

Never use detergent or soap on your cast iron. Hot water, let it soak for a few minutes, hit it with a plastic scrubber lightly and rinse and heat it on a burner til it's dry and wipe it with an oily rag (that you keep under the sink). Most things won't stick, some things will stick lightly but will come off easily. Take care of your steel cookie sheets the same way.

I've always used, uncured bacon grease, and a very large onion. I take a table spoon of bacon, then i slice the onion. I take it outside, and get the pan hot, add grease, the grease need to smoke, then i add the onion, cook the onion until it start to burn, scraping the pan the whole time. Then i would whip the pan clean. Then i would rubb a thin coat of bacon grease over the entire pan, put the pan in the over at, 500 degrees for one hour, then turn the oven off, and let cool. You can repeat this one more time, but most of the time you only need to do it once. But i will treat my pans every 6 months, just to keep them nonstick.. My grandma showed me this trick. If its a rusty pan, and 1/2 cup salt rock, to the pan with grease and onion, definitely do this treatment 3 times.. You try this, and you will never try anything else..

Since they are already seasoned with flaxseed oil I will continue to use that. I use it on my other cast iron and will be using it to season my other firebox items that warrant it. Flaxseed oil is a food grade linseed oil and is a drying oil so it won’t be sticky if you don’t bake it. I use it to coat the cast iron on my vintage coffee grinder to keep it shiny and rust free.

Cast iron cookware is usually shipped with a protective wax coating that needs to be removed prior to seasoning. Does yours? Or is it preseasoned?
