Summer scouting with of boots on the ground is a major advantage in northern states. Aside from mosquitos and deer flies' summer is often pleasant enough to be out in the field on breezy days with lower humidity. This kind of scouting in July and August is a serious barrier for the hunter in the deep south.

Great video. The only hunter that keeps it short and to the point. I’m really curious to how you would hunt the Michigan state land I hunt. It’s super hard to read. The bucks last year made scrapes every 15 yards or so down a transition line between a small 20 acres of woods and a field that wasn’t planted last year. Corn was across the street from it so I’d catch them walking the field at night to get to the corn. It’s soybean this year. Where the corn was and where it wasn’t planted. I ended up getting a small buck last year on that tree line but I didn’t get the one I wanted. I would see him come out further down the tree line at night but could just not get close enough to him. When I would hunt down there I wouldn’t see him. Im assuming since it’s planted I’ll have even better luck this year on the tree line. It’s super pressured there. But no one hunts the tree line.

Obviously its hard to guess whats going on without actually being there, but having been in that situation I can say that what has worked for me is to keep trying to find the answer to the question by moving and trying to find his daylight area, and a way to hunt it undetected.

I have a couple questions for you dan if ya don't mind. Can I relate to Early season tactics that you use in September to Michigans Opener October 1st? Where else can I place cameras other than food sources to find bucks on the property? .. no baiting isn't legal .. and finally I am 6'5 with a 7 foot wingspan, any recommendations for a bow to use that will reach a big draw length?
@thehuntingbeast
@thehuntingbeast 2 жыл бұрын
If your using cell cams or your not checking them till after season or when you hunt, you can set the cameras like the one I set in this video covering the bedding exit. Otherwise food sources and heavy trails is good for inventory. IM NOT QUITE AS BIG AS YOU, BUT KNUCKLES DRAG FOR SURE. Prime makes some bows for big and tall guys. Im like you, can't stand the micro bow movement.

I hunt some steep hills in Eastern Tennessee, been following you for the last few years. Following your buck bedding tactics has been rough but seeing some bigger bucks just not closing the deal. The hardest part is the approach navigating and staying away from the thermal tunnels. I d like to see a little more hill country techniques if you got some hidden in your back pocket. Go Trump😁

I hunt east Tennessee also. The hardest part of employing the buck bedding tactic here, for me, is fickle winds. I can't trust them to blow the same direction for 15 minutes. But there are those rare days you get consistent wind, usually from the north. I've had good success on those days. Also I almost always have to approach from below. Harwood ridges and hollows everywhere with a thick layer of crunchy leaves. And they're bedded above me. Also they bed right where they eat. Its just a really challenging place to try and kill an early season buck.

I’ve battled with these situations as well. I’ve had more success hunting thermals only and avoiding the top 1/3 of ridges or fingers. There’s 1 other than me on the lease and we don’t access any of it with an ATV after July or August. I’m running cell cameras now to see if I can pinpoint the travel as the rut starts to click. Of course, our rut has been nutty lately.

I love your hunting tips. Been watching you for a long long time. But it’s gotten old for me with the political T shirts. I don’t think you realize you have hunters that admire your methods when it comes to hunting. But this political stance you keep making. I think I will stick to John Eberhart , The hunting public, Seek One and Whitetail Solutions. I don’t care to know about how you feel about politics. Hunting is just like football games. People want to get away from the noise and just enjoy nature and what people that have at least one thing in common can bring them together on.

@@thehuntingbeast I’m glad you responded. You don’t have to mention it. Anyone with common sense knows who you like from a political standpoint just because of what you wear. If you understand sales 101. Visual is what sales and get the message across. I been watching your channel for years. I admire your passion for hunting. You have inspired me and a few of my friends a long time ago. At the state of which our country is in and how everything is polarized. You wearing your Trump shirts and the shirt you have on this video clearly shows who you favor. That’s your personal choice and I have no issue what so ever on who you like. It’s clear people are paying attention to it because a guy mentioned it. It’s like you said it’s a great hunting channel. I watch your channel because you give great information. But since Trump came on the seen. You have worn shirts with some kind of political statement. I have never seen you wear stuff like that. I’m use to the plain old country boy who loves the hell out of hunting that has brought people from all walks of life together enjoying how to hunt whitetail deer. Not having to be distracted by visual images on shirts that have caused division among people because of their political differences. If you can’t understand that then I guess I will move.
