Scrapping a Cat 621B Scraper

Watching everything including trains getting scrapped, it surprises me how thin the metal is. If I was designing a bulldozer, the frame would be about 4 feet thick. I always like to overbuild stuff. My driveway that I poured is 24" thick with lots of 1" rebar. It hasn't cracked so far.

Bulldozer with 4 feet thick frame would be ridiculously heavy, so much that it will be cracking and damaging roads (if you can find appropriate tires) or it will need to have many axles to limit load per axle. Then the engine itself will have to even more massive and powerful to haul all that weight, considering that bulldozer might have to work on slopes too. The fuel consumption will then be so much that it will be more economic for customers to not buy the 4 feet thick framed bulldozer. Overall, the bulldozer will be struggling with its own weight most of the time.
