Scrapping a microwave: THIS IS WHY I ALWAYS PICK THEM UP!!!!!

Hello scrappers and planet lovers. in this video, I take apart a microwave I found on garbage day and explain why they are always a great item to pick up. I will also show you how to safely and effectively identify and separate the metals in order to help maximize your profit and divert the entire thin away from the landfill.

Microwaves are one of my favorite things to scrap. I know they aren't the most valuable things to scrap, but I really enjoy taking them apart.

Microwaves are super fun to scrap. Love the magnets! I take them all the way down and even strip the appliance wires

I started scrapping BECAUSE I wanted to keep recyclables out of the landfill! So of course, I will take ANYTHING Metal, I never turn down free metal! Sometimes I even charge to take it., The other part is I like to take stuff apart. Microwaves, Of course, are fun to take apart so, YEP, I am taking them. Oh and Money is money to me as well. HAHAHA

Final scrap value: #2 copper $2.01, tin $2.40, alum transformer $1.70, 40% appliance wire $0.75, and 60% appliance wire $1.15 for scrap value of $8.01

I just don't see how all the time spent acquiring it, dismantling it, and selling it is worth $8.01. You're better off trying to find one that you can fix and sell as a working unit.

@@nicholash8021Not worth it for one I believe the idea is to accumulate with other items for weight value. These items crushed into landfill can potentially cause water pollution among other things.

Here in the US in my area we have to pay 25-60 per tv. So I charge $30 per tube tv picked up and have a scrap yard owner that only charged me $5 per tv. Good deal. Same with Freon bearing items. I charge $30 per fridge and $15 to dispose of it.

Nice trade off for sure. Thanks for the comment. Glad to see an option for people. Unfortunately when people have to pay to get things removed is when you find more items in ditches or dumpsters.

CRT TVs and microwaves are some of the only bulky stuff I always pick up🤣

I crossed paths with a guy who won't knock back microwaves. His top priority is building deconstruction stuff such as taps, pipes, and plumbing, but microwaves are also totally on. He is thinking of the copper. He also does container deposit I have retrieved microwaves twice in the last few years but cannot find the guy lately to pass them onto him, so I just took them to the scrapyard, un-scrapped, along with large woolbags of aluminium foil. .The hairdressers' wheely bin where I get the foil from is also where I retrieved one of the microwaves from. So a microwave conked out on the girls there. I cannot do hard rubbish scrapping. You need all sorts of tools, know-how, its a ton of fidgeting around, and there is no hard rubbish areas of any note around here. But I can definitely see the merit in it.

Can you not throw the compositor in tin shred? That piece that the fan motor was on that was left after to took the copper from the 2 end pieces are cast aluminum

Inside the fan aluminium part there are two bushing that are actually bronze

Im in Las Vegas All my local yards Pay $65 A Ton For tin Shred I Get A Bit more then that @ $110 A ton for Tin Shred we get $0.10 LB For copper Transformers And 0.07 For aluminum A Month ago i took down about 1000 Lbs of copper transformers and motors They Gave Me $0.12 For That load. I Really appreciate the response to my comment And I still stand by my statement Looks like a solid Hour of Time for around $5 That would consume 2 Cubic Feet of the Limited space in My Car And in my shop. Every one Has their own Methods I Use A Ford Five Hundred (4 Door Sedan) That i Have Completely removed The Interior from other than the Driver Seat. The only way i would mess with microwaves again is if i found a load of 10- 20 Of Them That i Was Able to Process all at once

Just amazed at the price difference! It is too bad you get such bad prices. That would also deter lots of others to pick up scrap that would therefore probably end up in the trash. Again, everyone is entitled to their own methods, it just gave me an idea for a video series and also to help other scrappers (where scrap value is much higher than your region) looking for a good item to pick up. There are several reasons, but the most important are: a little scrap money to spend on the family and various charities, teach others how to scrap or allow the curious to see what is inside the various appliances and electronics, and lastly, to divert these metals away from the landfill. It truly bothers me to know that some of these items I pull out of the dumpsters or off the curb are bound for the landfill.

Someone really needs to have a path to salvage those electronic parts. A working relay and transformer is worth a LOT more than scrape value. I grab these just for the fan and transformer alone.

I’m quite new to scrapping. I always pick up microwaves and tv’s when I see them. The thing I see every few weeks and never pick up is printers. I imagine there’s not much to scrap in them. Am I wrong?

older ones have cold rolled steel bars in them they are quite handy for many things at the household....but novadays only plastic and stuff the whole

All those transformer cores are Iron, why u put them in with your tin?

if you are referring to the casing it is classified as tin/shred here in southwestern Ont. The core that connects to the beryllium is copper

What do u do with the beryllium

I put the caps in a bag and let the men at the scrapyard know that they may contain beryllium. I think they just throw them right in the tin pile.

@@wodniwbsn I have used some for magnet fishing, some I bring to school and give to the staff to hold up chart paper, and others I have in the garage to use as a magnet. I have heard of some people that sell them online as well.

I love scraping microwaves you get a dollar per capacitor were I live so you get a 100 microwaves that's a 100 bucks just in capacitors I don't think you want to pass over microwaves.
