So I meet one of my competitors :) I began scrapping about 4 years ago here in London, Ont, and it has been an adventure and very gratifying to see less items going into the dump yards. I have been watching your vids since I stareted and thank you for sharing with us. Just wanted to say hi and wish you the best in our shared interests.

Try going to apartment buildings or rental units. They often have them or cottages too.

Hit your scrapyard and see about buying the sealed units. They usually sell them by the pound and they're already drained of Freon. Not oil though! Very oily. But you can buy a truck full of them and clean them for copper.

@@edwinsmith1774 yea it will cost you money so I'd say if your going to take kind of stuff same as A/C units and fridges and freezers I'd save them up and have a bunch done at once they might give you you a flat rate on quantity! ♻😎👍

Great video Sir, I'm just curious, do you have any suggestions on how to make a wire stripper or ideas on simple ways of getting the copper out of its coating? I hope you do because I can't afford to buy one {preferably Motorized One} but I might be able to purchase parts to build one, any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you. Eugene.

I think it depends on who you go to, location, and amount of items. I luckily have a friend that does it for me for a case of beer here and there.

Don't even worry about that just put it inside fridges and the scrap yards take it. They have their own ways of disposing everything that goes to the scrap yard.

On extension cords should i take off the outer coating. That thick plastic.
@TinManScrapper
@TinManScrapper Жыл бұрын
It depends on the extension chord. I feel that if the chord is very flimsy than less copper and a lot of thicker coating. I leave those alone. If I tried to bend the chord and it is stiff, than more copper inside, so those ones I do remove the outer coating and upgrade to 60% appliance wire.

New scrapper here, I know it's an older video, but I'm hopeful! I recently acquired a small AC unit that i thought was drained of refrigerant but wasn't. I started cutting the copper line and it shot out. I got out the shop, but I had to go back in and grab my phone. I held my breath and quickly got a box fan in front of the door to vent it out, when it slowed down, I held my breath again and brought the unit outside and waited for the fumes to clear upz but now the refrigerant is liquified in a greasy like way all over my stuff. What should I do?? I know it's very bad to breath in, but I can't find anything about it getting on your skin and such.

I too have dropped one inside. Cat littler will work to clump it and soak it up. unfortunately if on the walls and tools you will just need to wipe them down with a rag. You are not alone on this, we have all done it. I would just wash it off.

@@TinManScrapper I know it's bad to inhale, but I got lucky and ran into an HVAC guy at work today who told me as long as it's not on its aerosol form, it's fine to clean it up like a regular thing, just might smell bad for a while lol. But thank you so much for your input as well!

just be careful as it is illegal to cut the copper line to release the Freon. but you can usually get 1.5lbs#2 copper from compressor and about 1lb from tubing. the rest of the aluminum/copper radiators are about $2.23lb and weigh around 3-4 lbs. you also get the motor with some small amounts of copper and the tin from the frame and compressor shell (around 15lbs)
