Love tearing down transformers. Hate that more and more of them are going to aluminum windings. Did finally get my first microwave with an inverter instead of a transformer the other day. It was interesting.

I use a med size hatchet and a decent hammer ...a couple of cracks on the weld seam...bam ….works great on the bigger hid transformers...some are tougher than others

And old plow coder, a coder is what cut the soil and plow fipes it over. Cut the coder in half and with a pair of visegrims you cut motor stats in half.

Hello here is your style of dismantling with smashing hammer on the welds. ok i try it next time :)thanks for tip brother in scrapping. it is lucky find theese awesome transformators. In each one i weighted about 820-890 grams of clean copper. have a good day canadian.

These are the ones I like even though the plastic is a pain to get off. I had this old transformer I found that was rusty but the worst of it was that all the windings were covered in a black material like it was made to be weather proof. Was not the ‘C’ kind and laminations were all overlapping. After cutting off one side could not bash it through no matter what. Had to dismantle the metal laminations as they were all overlapping. Most painful transformer tear apart ever! What do you do if you have ones that are made to be waterproof and the windings are encased in plastic? Just shred, I guess?

I tear them down the same way, i just take a hammer to it to get the rest of the varnish/glue off them. :-) Good Vid :-)

It onlytakes a couple of minutes to cut the wires and pull the copper off. this works good when the plates are inverted every other plate. It also lets you see which ones are copper and which ones are aluminum.

1/2 Copper is good to do about one pound of copper

I find it's easier to drive the steel out of the copper by resting the copper on two blocks and hitting the steel

If you’ll flip it over so the copper is sitting on the vice and use a hammer and a junk punch and hit the center of the metal it’ll come off easier than this but don’t squeeze the two metal end trying to get it apart

ive seen the first peice of copper that comes off is aluminum and the secound part is copper so check the peices to make sure they all are copper

Not worth it, half of it is aluminum. Just turn it in as electric motors and make the same $.
