Stunning. I used to do papier-mâché masks when I was little (grade school age) and loved it so much. I would love to do this technique with either napkins or rice paper for the rich designs or inclusions in the paper. I think it would add such an interesting texture. TFS your astounding talent with us. Thanks to you generous, dedicated ladies and gents of You Tube my artistic education has grown leaps and bounds.

I have made dress forms with this method except I have the person wear an old tight tshirt then cover that with duct tape then paper mache with real varnish/varithane mixed with plaster of paris and white glue ... with the cheese cloth in between the layers (once it is completely dry) it is strong like fiberglass....I never thought of doing this for a doll ...Very Clever!!Thanks for the tutorial I am definitely going to do this !

First, this is so amazing! Second, I was laughing out loud when you were talking about cutting the dolls hair off, then it brought back a memory... when I was little I cut the hair off one of my dolls and told my little sister, "see it doesn't hurt, you should cut your hair" and she did! My mom had a fit, I can still remember sitting at a local donut counter and all she had was stubble across the front of her head, lol!!!

This is marvelous. For "cheese cloth" I used instead medical surgical all gauze sponge is perfect, cheap because you can 200 3x3 12 ply for 3 to 4.00 dollars here in America. You can use it for cleaning brushes and many other things if not crafting. Also for different colors and such you can use thin decoupage or wrapping tissue paper in the party section has a lot of choices for colors and design, just more delicate so you have to as you say dab and not swipe also molding with your fingers is good with the tissue paper. I also have used glitter fabric paints. If you want jewel designs. Jewel nail art pieces glued on is perfect.

Good grief, Jeanette -- I've been making these for a few years - and I bought dolls at the thrift store -- one bag had three adults and one child marked down to 99 cents -- but the fact you searched for a doll with narrow hips and indented waist is amazing to me -- it's like a chef at the farmers' market picking the specific ingredients he needs. It's so early here -- I can't sleep -- so I'm browsing youtube and pinterest and this popped up -- I've watched it before, but am going to watch it again -- I did steal your idea about using gauze with the glue on the bodice for strength -- is that in this video stream? Anyway, great idea - and your doll is gorgeous -- I hope you & family are well -- Patricia

Lovely so far, knowing what the result will be. I was thinking, the bookpaper is thicker you said. Isn't it a good idea to do the very first beginning on the plastic foil, to do a thin layer with newspaper? Another idea I had was the cheesecloth, in stead of this you also could use soms wire gauze. It's cheap and everbody could find it in every drugstore. Just some ideas from a creative viewer. Regards from the Netherlands, Europe.
