You got a nice result but it could have been much nicer and larger by going diagonally across the slab that you started with. Maybe there were imperfections in the piece that I couldn't see.. Grab yourself a carver's vice and screw some melamine coated chipboard to it. Then you can hot glue your piece to that and have nearly perfect work holding. I liked your demonstration of the carving gouges. I have one and didn't know how to use it
