Beautiful, flown so well too and that draggy airframe to contend with too,a lack of elevator authority is a nightmare and glad that you can repair to fly again. For those who placed the thumbs down you just dont get it do you ? this is how pioneer aeroplanes flew with wing warping and rotary engines that sent them into a spiral dive.

That was a great job. Building from scratch, maiden flight is part of the initial test, could fly or crash. The same happened in the old days. Model building and repairing is part of the hobby. Some improvements, and you get that masterpiece of history back in the air.. I build, fly crash, repair. Experimenting is a lot of fun. Hope you get it back soon, because I subscribed!

its actually how the original radials were built and operated in RL, as the engines got progressively larger, radials were further developed to stay stationary and turn the prop instead (no idea why this happened, maybe to do with the torque created by spinning ever increasingly larger engines)

the real reason for being rotary is to eliminate the mass of the flywheel of the engine and build a lighter engine. in this case the cylinders will act as flywheel. The problem was created by the gyroscopic forces that made difficult to turn the plane to one side, this is was abandoned later.

Never stand in front of an engine without the aircraft restrained.. please!

It sounds like the real thing. I was at a museum and outside the airport hangar they started the engine up of a Caudron plane (it might have been a replica but I think they said it wasn’t). The pilot had to keep the engine going by revving it or putting more throttle in so it wouldn’t turn off. They said the engine was so loud it sounded like gunshots, I reckon it did! as the sound also echoed through the hangar next to it. By the way, great video and great job on the build of this RC airplane. 👍

If I've not been under hypnosis Ith such beautiful structure model, and engine , I could be worried about elevator unuse at taxying exercise, but I've not imagine the setup is wrong. Forget it, set it, and don't forget to film again for us. It's a so wonderful engine/model that it need to be shown. Well done and thank you Jerome From Frankreich

Very very nice. I would always recommend to have a low/mid/high set on elevator rates. At least on high will 90-100% travel you could of pulled out. Superb engine, Very unique.

Thanks for the tips! Two factors came together which unfortunately could not prevent the rapid descent of the aircraft. 1st. the response time of the engine 2nd. the insufficient deflection of the elevator. In the end, it was good that the model landed in the corn field instead of on the hard landing strip.

Congratulations with this very realistic build! Sounds really like a real one and also in flight it looks just like it is real. Luckily the corn field served as an air bag...

This happened to me too with a big Stampe biplane. The lesson is to always have big high rates available, more than you think you could possibly need. Many times you wind up trimming the nose down for powered flight and then the glide dives beyond pitch control. You can lift the nose up with power but at some point you have to land. If you have time you can move the trim to full up elevator to help with the landing.

Absolutely stunning model :) Great seeing the ground runs, I bet you have to concentrate on the rudder with that engine and prop. And what an engine, beautiful :) Oh man I wrote my comment before the end! I am glad there wasn't much damage - very lucky that field was full of crops!

_Hello Sam. Thank you for your great comment !_ In the end, it was good that the model landed on the cornfield instead of the hard runway. The large propeller had shredded the corn, preventing major damage to the model. _Cheers, Horst_
