the choice between squig and kraken is a nightmare, but it looks great!! The subtle way the wood grain looks like ripples in the water is especially fun :-)

Thanks B 💜 In hindsight - I “repaired” some holes in the top end of the plinth with leftover epoxy putty to make sure the decoupage glue wouldn’t leak down the side of the plinth. But if I wouldn’t have done that, I’d probably have skipped the water effects altogether because just paint bring the wood grain was enough of a cool effect to leave as is.

Alex you are seriously one of the best tabletop gaming channels on KZbin. each video is so personal, and it really feels like as a viewer we are there with you during the journey. this platform is very saturated with creators who put on a "mask" when they are presenting in their videos, and it feels hard to connect. but with your videos it feels like we are watching a close friend. they are always very informative and fun to watch. thank you for your interactions with your viewers through your livestreams and responding to comments and messages on instagram. YOU ROCK!

As charming as ever. I would say, there is another reason for mixing colors: it creates something very unique. Of course, to replicate this for an entire army is almost impossible, when when you more stick to more individual miniatures or small squads, it's an excellent way to have colors that exist nowhere else. I was waiting for a Squidmar joke, I must say ^^

What a wonderful piece, have to say I was watching for Oscar to charge across the bridge and hold you at sword point for the bottle! Bit of a greatest hits, yellow armour - confident use of one of the difficult colours to paint, scratchbuild deck, rail and convincing hull planking and then paint it beautifully with reflected lights, sculpt tentacles from scratch - so easy when you know what you're doing and break it right down, make a sea surface with glue and a straw - what could be easier, edit two files into one perfect pirate - ummmm, totally new skill but look at the model, done! So many of these elements come from lessons learned by making previous vids and I love that I've been here long enough to pick them out as vids and particular lessons. The 52minis back catalogue is a real trove folks, no-one as relaxing to listen to when you're hobbying, and an absolute stack of hints, tips and lessons learned to keep. I still remember the wet blending vid that unlocked it for me as a technique after so many failed tries, and made such a the difference to nearly every model I paint (Gamechanger on bases!)

Rather than Mod Podge for water, I prefer Fluid Acrylic Gloss Medium, which dries the same way and seals particularly nicely. It's also easy to tint with acrylic paint. It reacts the same way as PVA/Mod Podge when you're putting it down. And if you want bigger waves, get one of the gloss media with more structure (higher viscosity), like Soft Body or Heavy Body. All available from your local art supply store.

Have you heard of Lighting Mentor? His work focuses on “painting light” which is the inverse of what photographers and videographers do in “painting with light.” Your previous video, “Using Less Paints Will Make You A Better Painter,” which showcased how slight variations mixing your own colors can provide a much more unified, consistent paint job tonally and thematically. I thought that video was really exciting and motivating and, as part of my journey to paint my first miniature, resulted in me purchasing single pigment acrylics from the nearby university art store. Watching your video reminded me of Lighting Mentor’s “Power in the Grays” which demonstrates how using color relativity, a painter can create the sensation of there being a much larger palette in use. Slight changes to color hue, tone or temperature can make it feel as though an entire 216 pot set was used rather than the very small collection he began with. I just thought you would be interested in this.

I really like the idea for this diorama! The story is very clear, funny ( goblins for me will always be more funny than dark) but also a bit serious ( dwarfs are more serious than goblins). I really like the composition and idea of using a straw to create ripples (I may use this technique someday). Goblin Fantasy pirates, this also sounds interesting!

At first I wasn't sure about your statement regarding goblins as natural pirates... but I can see it now. What a lovely little fellow. And purely by chance this nice set of wierd greenskins landet in my basket. Woops. A few euro less... what a shame. But so worth it. I would love to see a whole ship - build and inhabited by goblins! Maybe I should unpack my drawing stuff and try myself as an illustrator again. I'm not quite comfortable enough in the diorama building and miniature painting realm to follow your really awesome footsteps here.

Haha, killer work Alex! During that veneer bending part I was reminded of my previous veneer bending projects where I used a combination of water, alcohol and glycerin.
