You should be rightly proud of the station Michael - superbly modelled - catches the North East of England feel of a "past its sell by date" structure which has seen better days. Video shorts are perfect as it captures what you have been doing in a punchy kind of style. I certainly enjoy them. Cheers Euan

I have found that a cup of tea, a Digestive biscuit, and Chandwell make for the perfect Friday evening. It has been a pleasure to follow the progress of the station building, and you must be very proud of the result. I am looking forward to the next big project as you tackle the hotel. Thanks for taking the time to share Chandwell with us.

Hi Michael - The trouble with your building is that it is so detailed it looks like its made in 00 scale and not N Scale. What I really love about it is it looks so gritty and therefore in my opinion so realistic. The way you do your hipped roofs is wonderful to watch. I am so envious of your skill in Inkscape, you make it look so easy. The backscene with the hotel, wow, what can I say. Really looking forward to seeing how you put that together after drooling over your station building. Regards Chris

is Chandwell based on an particular location? love stone buildings, remind me of yorkshire, saw an model of an setup called "tetley railway" sadly the modeller died. it was most amazing mod railway ive seen with hilly gradients and an lovely station. your work is amazing too, attension to detail is so labour intensive thx
@Chandwell3 жыл бұрын
Thank you John! Chandwell is heavily inspired by West Yorkshire in general, and Bradford in particular. The stone buildings are very much of that area. The hotel I am making next is based on one in Bradford, and my Weir pub is also based on one in Bradford. The station itself is made up, but heavily inspired by a brick station in Chester. I also absolutely loved the Tetley Mills layout. It really captured that West Yorkshire mill town feel, and I have been really inspired by it - Chandwell also has no flat ground, and all the roads will be on hills. Thank you for your comments. Michael.

@@Chandwell On my second watch through, I noticed that I actually may know an Inkscape trick you're not familiar with? Your war memorial; the letters are just typed on and not made to look carved or embossed. Is that deliberate because of its size and you know how to do those tricks? Or would you like a link to how to do it? I didn't want to just assume you didn't know (You're very good with Inkscape). :)
@Chandwell3 жыл бұрын
I do know a trick to do this but didn’t do it here as the text is already too small for the naked eye to see. I’d love to hear your trick though as mine is quite convoluted involving two intersections of the text left-up and right-down.
@folkloreofbeing3 жыл бұрын
@@Chandwell I learned a lot of Inkscape from the channel 'Logos by Nick'. The video is question is this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWa6hGaLpZdlnqs It's for the carved look, but I found that I can use it to make embossed looks too depending on where the darker lettering is placed and blurred. I don't do the step he does with the rectangle, instead, I duplicate the word, change its colour and drag it around until I get the angle I like, then, I 'difference' it. I do the same thing for highlights too. (you'll need a few copies of the word) Then, if I want it to look embossed, it goes on bottom layer and gets blurring applied, or for carving it's added to the top layer and played with there, etc... There are a few steps in this one too, but with your level of knowledge, you can discard the superfluous steps same as I did. I t's prob just as much a pain in the rear as your method though.
