I have watched many pro instructors including Ledbetter books when you had ti be there this video is the very best of everything i have watched they usually just cover a small section of the whole picture Your complete overview is so beautifully described concentrating on a wide connected takeaway to narrowing in the downswing to a wide follow through and not focusing on hitting the ball is a real swing changer for most of us never would have got this so important move without your help many thanks

@@Scratchgolfacademy Yes, extremely helpful, thank you. Your instruction are in terms that I can understand and apply. Your best tip for me is the wide on the back swing to narrow on the down swing. Going wide stores energy. Getting narrow releases energy. I think of it like a figure skater doing a spin and bringing the arms closer to the body to increase spin. As advertised, the result is freer and faster rotation and more power. The concept is so simple that I was able to immediately apply this on the course.

There's a lot to work on here. Grip pressure, take it back wide, come down narrower, rotate body but then slow down to allow the club to speed up, whip it off the tee with soft hands. And then you have maybe half a second to get the timing and sequencing correct. Yeah that might take a couple of practice swings in the backyard to iron out! :) Thanks Adam, great video!!

im new with a driver, bought myself one 2 weeks ago, because 230yards with a 3 iron or 3wood is not ideal on the tee of a par 5. The max i get with a driver right now is 280-285 yards. I hope i can put some extra in it with these tips ( i overswing to much and my wrists are too locked up) Thanx for the tips, going to work on it asap :)

@Scratchgolfacademy

Dan, I agree, there will be pressure in the right foot at the top of the backswing. On force plates there is a fairly wide range on this though, so I wouldn't force it. Hope this helps. Best, Adam

I have yet to understand fully why we want width in the backswing. It would seem as long as the downswing is done as you show here one should be fine. I feel when I stay very wide in my back swing it feels like I'm swinging a 2x4 going back with no flex in any part of my wrists and arms. Just feels stiff. I know we don't want to have the swing and arms break down completely going back. My timing feels the best when at about 9 o'clock my wrists will start to hinge and I have a feeling of pushing the length of the shaft up and back. Hope this makes sense lol. Love your "no one thing fits all players" approach to instruction! Thank You!

With the right side stretch drill, I couldn't feel stretching until I was waaay too far back on my back swing (looked like Kyle Berkshire a tad) . Is this indicative that I'm doing it wrong or that I have the flexibility to swing harder?

@Scratchgolfacademy

Craig, I'd say yes. It does depend on what your current tendencies are. I tend to whip my hands at it too much, so, for instance, I need to key on less 'flick' as I hit it. You may very well be different. All the best, Adam

John, these are personal choices for each player. Some, like Fred Couples, like to take it more upright going back, then drop it in coming down. This can produce a lot of power. Others, sat Matt Kuchar, prefer more the style of generally one plane throughout. Hope this helps. Best, Adam

Wow 😮, really good good lessons. the Best !! 😃🤩👆🐤 Would like to bear in my mind the difference, the explanation ! [memo from this lesson] - back swing의 1단계인 takeaway를 왼팔을 쭉 펴지도록 밖으로 길고 넓게 보내서 올린다 (not mere take-back, but sure take-away) - back swing은 길게 올리고, down swing은 좁게(narrow) 즉 몸 가까이에 근접시켜서 내림으로써 클럽헤드 스피드를 가속한다. - 일반인들은 narrow back swing을 하고, wide downswing을 하는데... narrow back swing이 오바스윙을 유발하는 원인이다. - 그래서 narrow back swing은 wide downswing을 유발하고, wide downswing은 path를 역전시킨다 (out -> in 으로) - Tiger Woods의 스윙을 보면, 가슴과 팔이 함께 움직인다. 이렇게 하면 에너지 전달이 안 된다 (transfer of energy is not possible). 그렇게 에너지를 전달해야 한다 (whip the energy out there).

I kind of wish the video's title were different. Maybe "KEYS TO MAXIMIZE YOUR DRIVING DISTANCE". To hit drives like Tiger Woods, or for that matter Adam Scott, requires that the muscles used to swing a golf club to be quick twitch. A person cannot teach muscles to be quick twitch. That is inherent.

Interesting do you realize you have another video hitting driver further getting club further behind on the way down. Your actually saying two completely opposite things for distance.. I really have to stop watching golf instruction on KZbin

Ok, I had a look at this video and I’m happy to comment, not to argue but to try and help. Two areas where you might sense contradiction. 1) I briefly say to ‘keep the club in front of you’ as you take it away. A good backswing is still WELL inside the target line, we just want to avoid the common pitfall of snatching the club behind the hands in the takeaway. 2) Almost all of this video is viewed from face on, the premise being the downswing should narrow, or load, then the wrists should pop near impact. If you stand in front of a mirror face on you’ll notice that when the club is more behind you early in the downswing (do it in slow motion) it will make the arc seem more narrow. So, loading the shaft (face on) as outlined in this video should work in tandem with it being more behind the body (as viewed down line) Hope this helps
