Knowing the background of how they marketed the movie is huge. They asked Drew Barrymore to be the star of the franchise and she pushed to be the opening kill instead of playing Sidney because she said it would be more impactful. They gave her the opening kill character but marketed the movie as though she was the star, so everyone walked into the theatre thinking they were watching a Drew horror movie and were shocked. It completely revamped and revitalized the horror genre. The impact can't be understated. You guys should really watch the rest of the films as a reaction as well.

“Fred” the janitor was played by director Wes Craven, who wrote and directed the original Nightmare on Elm Street. Also, when Randy is on the couch watching Halloween and imploring “Jamie” to look behind her… ironically he is played by Jamie Kennedy so this adds another level of meta
@davidpuerto1619 Жыл бұрын
Adding to the point of Wes Craven creating A Nightmare on Elm Street there was a slight dig at that franchise at the beginning of the movie. When Casie is talking to the killer and guesses his favorite movie was Nightmare the killer says that he liked that one because it was scary and her response was "Well the first one was but the rest all suck." Wes Craven had only directed the first movie until he returned to the franchise about a decade later with New Nightmare.

I love how many horror movie references there are in Scream! There’s also some other Halloween references that I didn’t catch until later. One that’s a little obvious is when Tatum and Sidney are talking about her mom’s killer and Tatum says she sounds like a Wes Carpenter flick. And at the beginning of the movie, Casey’s dad tells her mom to go to the MacKenzies which is what Laurie Strode told the kids to do in Halloween.

Fun fact about Rodger l jackson aka ghostface: drew Barrymore was the reason he was cast. Originally, she was going to be read lines by someone, and the killers voice would be casted and dubbed in later. But she wanted a voice actor instead to add authenticity to her performance. So they had an open casting call, and Rodger was hired. The plan was to have Rodger read the lines to drew and then find the true voice later and dub over rodger. But rodger really impressed the filmmakers, and he was casted as the voice of ghostface permanently. It also started the tradition of actually making the calls during filming instead of faking it and dubbing in the voice later. Every phone call in the franchise is real and Roger is actually on set, calling the actor off screen. The cops actually showed up at the house they were filming in because they intercepted the calls and thought they were real.

So, idk if ya guy pick this series back up down the road. But it’s not so much THE slasher movie. It’s more like the movie that reinvented horror, this movie was and still is super meta to horror movies, and at the time in the 90’s, everything was Jason or Freddy or a rip off of that style of slasher, and Wes Craven, the man who created A nightmare on Elm Street, being the horror genius that he was, got together with a writer for teenage MRV drama show and made Scream, a satire of not only of horror movies, but the entire horror industry as a whole. It truly is one of the best horror franchises of all time, and every ounce of scream 1 and 4 are divine brilliance drawn straight from the beautifully twisted mind of Wes Craven. The rest are great too, 5 especially imo, but those 2 movies changed horror movies forever

Hey guys! I watch horror movies all year round and grew up on all the classic ones like this. One of the clues that Stu is the killer is that he and Tatum were basically inseparable the first half of the movie; he asks her to get him a beer at the party, she never comes back and he never wondered about her- even when he went to get himself a beer later. You were right abt the Wes (craven) John (carpenter)combo and yep Gail always becomes everyone's favorite (along w Dewey and Sydney of course). Courtney Cox who plays her purposely wanted to play a b*tch because everyone knew her as "Monica" from "Friends" where she played a nice girl- and Gail does evolve a bit in Part 2. We have a Star Wars movie reaction we're going to drop today, then we have 3 more scary movie reactions planned for this month. However, with all of the support we're getting, horror movie reactions might have to extend into Novemeber...

@Raggedy Pack Also I think it is important to note…ALL OF THE PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL FOR THIS MOVIE HAD DREW BARRYMORE FRONT AND CENTER. Drew Barrymore was the blonde woman in the opening scene she was America’s sweetheart and has been famous since she was a child in E.T. Anyways because Drew Barrymore was so famous and was front and center on the poster and in the trailer people assumed she was the main character/final girl. So when she died in the first 12 minutes people lost their minds in a good way. Rightfully so.

19:12 I’m amused that Blake’s fingers have come back this early in the tension building. … This is gonna hold my focus for the whole reaction lol Thanks for letting us watch with you, guys 💙

Fun fact: Caller ID sales skyrocketed after Scream came out. Fun fact 2: Billy wasn't actually supposed to throw the phone at Stu towards the end. Fun fact 3: In the beginning, when Casey was talking to the killer and she said the first Nightmare on Elm Street was good but the rest sucked, that line was put in by Kevin Williamson(the screenwriter of Scream) because up to that point Wes Craven had only direct 1 of the 3 or 4. Fun fact 4: Scream was marketed where Drew Barrymore was front and center with the rest of the cast.

Good reactions guys!🙂 Yes, the ending was drawn out but that was so you were able to hear the answers to the questions we all have with movies like this: the who, where, what, why and how. And just fyi all the endings are drawn out like that in all of the other 5 movies and honestly it works really well for this franchise lol And fun fact the first 3 movies of the franchise are related in more ways than one. You also get more back story from each of the movies. They really built a decent storyline for the first 3 movies. Movies 4-6 are good too while they do have some major changes there are also some connections to the first 3 that makes them all worth watching at least once.. they are even coming out with another one which will be #7 and that one will also have connections to the others. Even if you don't get through them for Oct you should still watch them all eventually 🙃

To answer your question at the end about the bathroom stall scene, it was neither Billy or Stu. It was just a random prankster.
@RaggedyPack Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the answer! For a random prankster, they made a great Ghostface! Falling face first into the sink was so in character -Corey

@@RaggedyPack with this Franchise often times/most of the time/usually there's 2 Ghostface Killers but anything a little bit more than that such as 3 Ghostface Killers or 4 Ghostface or anything less than 2 Ghostface Killers such as only 1 Ghostface Killer highly rare!

nice reaction guys... scream is one of the best horror cult classics ever... also, growing up in the 90s, i couldn't help but answer to the screen or correct you whenever you had a question about the 90s 😁 hope you guys react to the rest of the movies

Fun fact you can tell who kills who by how GF kills their victims. Billy strangles and holds the knife with one hand. Stu uses both hands to weild the knife he also raises the knife above his head. Also the part where Billy throws the phone and hits Stu wasn't part of the script. Also the part where Billy screams when Sidney hits him with the umbrella was a legitimate scream because Billy got hit where his actor had heart surgery so it generally hurt.

Not true. The who killed who part.

@@woopimright it literally is lol. If you watch the film Stu always has both hands on the knife and raises his hands above his head. Billy always strangles and holds the Knife with one hand.
