They seem to be on good terms and I don’t think they would have had any problem with their characters still being married in the movie. I think the writers just wanted Dewey to be the old Sheriff in a western archetype and needed him single for that. I really think it’s beautifully done. when Gale and Dewey have their moment together in the movie you can see that Gale still loves him. And I think the explanation that Dewey was just meant to be in woodsboro while Gale was always ambitious makes perfect sense for their characters. They still love each other but are just too different and sometimes love isn’t enough. It’s sad and bittersweet but makes sense

@GGAlchemist9 ай бұрын
I'm so glad that someone else wrote this first to save time. As much as I knew that Caitlin would hate it, his character arc was completed in this movie and keeping him wouldn't have made much sense. He went from inexperienced deputy to town sheriff to hard-boiled detective and finally local legend hero with his death. I don't think a better hero's journey could have happened for him. The only thing that I could see is that this arc could have been stretched to the next film. Once you've watched it and posted it, I'll give more details so that it doesn't spoil the movie. He could have been the hard-boiled detective here and local legend in the next film. But I digress. Excellent work as always and I'm eagerly looking forward to the next video!

there are a lot of great easter eggs in the film. During the toast at the house party at the end of the film, 1) the toast was "To Wes" in memory to Wes Craven; 2) multiple former cast members lent their voices in the collective toast including Rose McGowan and Matthew Lillard. While Richie is researching the Stab films, there is a youtube video with a title indicating that Kirby from Scream 4 survived her attack, which was a theory fans have had since the release of that film. Amber's death here is an homage to her (spoiler alert) character's demise in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, which came out about 3 years prior.

It wasn't gonna be Sidney, and I highly doubted Gale. Now, that's not to say it didn't upset me, I shed some tears in that theater. But one of them had to die to allow there to still be stakes. Also love your nail color! Edit: I forgot to mention that Sidney got married to and had kids with Mark Kincaid, Patrick Dempsey's cop character from Scream 3. As a long advocated Scream lover, I definitely appreciated all of the references from the older films in this movie (Knife shot, character references, Stab meta scenes, etc.). It felt very nostalgic and you can't help but love that as a longing Scream fanatic, but the film as a whole, is imo the weakest in the series. I consider this movie a tribute to the legendary Wes Craven, which makes me appreciate it in that aspect, even though they shouldn't have killed Dewey, but anyways 🫠 RIP Wes Craven ❤

Honestly I think Scream 2 is the weakest. It just doesn't really have that much going for it. Hi!! I really loved the video and i love ALL your reactions, i just wanted to comment on what you said in the other outro ! I agree with you. As someone who is a huge huge scream fan and has been watching the movies as they come, scream (5) is actually more appreciated when you don't binge it, at least for your first time watching it. In the first three movies, the time difference between their releases reached three years at best (one year between scream 1 and 2, and three years between scream 2 and 3), so the movies were really close together, the memory was fresh. Scream 4 took eleven years to be released after the third one. It was already a long long time and fans were starving, thinking the saga would not continue. So when it came, the appreciation was huge. The new intro with several stab openings was crazy, Sydney appearing was an actual surprise, the callbacks were fun. Scream 4 ended with a feeling of culmination. And it really felt, to me, that it was over. Sadly, of course. I had no hopes that we would get another scream movie, specially after Wes Craven died. After that, another eleven years passed until scream 5 was released. So the appreciation was even bigger. First movie since Wes, eleven years since the fourth movie, big expectations since the fourth movie is just so so good. So the callbacks, the end section of the movie, was really really fun for us long term fans who waited for it, yk? It was fun to go "Awww they're redoing the randy scene!" "the tatum scene!" and stuff, because it really had been a long time. This doesn't mean to discredit your perception of the movie btw, the movie is not the best one in the franchise by far, I just mean to say that you're definitely right about these movies when you say they shouldn't be binged as a first watch. Your reaction over dewey is also something that got "hurt" because of the way these first watches happened! Before scream 5, we spent a long long time without Dewey. I guess we had some time to acclimate before watching him die. Which sucked ass btw like the original three are my favorite characters. But still! You were freshly immersed in the love for these characters so of course it hit you harder in some ways. Anyway, basically yes i think you're right, the appreciation is definitely higher but not just because of the long term fans but also bc of the time of wait in between the movies! Anyway, thank you for the reaction! I hope you are a rewatcher type of girl so you can relive Dewey in the first four movies, and maybe get some love for the fifth!?! :> Hope you have fun watching the Sixth one too!!!

This is my least favorite Scream movie, to be honest. Not just because it's kinda of a boring rehash of the first Scream movie, but also because Dewey's death is completely unacceptable. The DISRESPECT to his character is insane. Not just to his character, but also to David Arquette, who gave so much of himself to this frenchise just to be cutoff of it (literally) like it meant nothing. Dewey's ending leaves so much unresolved (the relationship with Gale, for one) and it doesn't close his character arc in a way that makes sense. With everything his been through, you cannot tell me that Dewey would die to a teenage girl wearing a mask because his phone rang and he got distracted. It's just stupid and it ruins a movie that wasn't even headed in a good direction to begin with.

Dewey's death, while extremely sad and anger inducing, did make sense for his character. Ever since the first film, he felt guilty that he could not protect his sister, Tatum, from the hands of a ghost face killer. So, this was his way of saving someone else's sister from a ghost face killer(s)' rampage. It also made sense from a franchise perspective. It is nearly unfathomable for a horror franchise to keep the same surviving characters from film to film. It almost became a joke regarding how much damage Dewey would take in each film but in the final scene, a paramedic would say that he's going to live. Assuming that Gail and Syd would continue to return in future films, Dewey was basically the glue that kept those characters together as Gail and Syd have never really been friends. Their mutual grief would bring them together for the future films.
@shesscared9 ай бұрын

I think you may be onto something about long term fans vs. binge watching for the first time. It's interesting to hear your take and I do see your points. I also rank 5 down there (3 is just a bit of a messy though a funny film). However, I do like the 5th movie overall quite a bit. Dewey really did need to die in this one, me and my friends were devastated but we predicted it would be coming. It had been so long between 3 and 4 and then 4 and 5 that it was so overdue that one of the golden trio had to go for this movie to carry weight and Cid is victim royalty and cannot be killed under any circumstances least the internet fans of scream riot. Dewey was the only one which could go out with some dignity and overall I feel he did. He wasn't disrepected in this film at all and the focus really did need to be slowly shifted to the new characters (which did need some work in this one but I think are very much established fully in 6). Look forward to your future reaction.

Regarding your thoughts on the movie as a whole. I think you articulated yourself really well. I think how and when you watch some media, depending on the media, can have a lot of influence in shaping perspectives and opinions. So fun fact, my own history with the Scream franchise, is that I watched the first three movies when they first released. Then sometime in the last year or so, a few KZbin channels, such as yours, have been posting reactions to the Scream series. I enjoyed seeing people getting into the series, sharing their thoughts in comments etc, so I was actually inspired to catch up and watch 4, 5 and 6. (So thanks for getting me back into the series). I actually really enjoyed 4, 5 and 6, but there was like a decade or more in-between when i watched the first three Scream movies and the latter sequels. I also generally go with the popular opinion, of the third being the "weakest" for various reasons, so that plus the massive gap in time, probably made me more receptive to the latter movies. I personally also much prefer longer ongoing television shows, over movies, because I tend to like characters and how characters interact with each other, much more. Interpersonal dynamics and all that. Same with a few other mediums, like long running books, comics, so on. That being said... whilst I was really really sad about Dewey. (I have Dewey's theme on my Ipod. Another fun fact, its a composition from Hanz Zimmer than was originally used in the movie Broken Arrow, but... I think it actually suits Dewey a lot more and i associate it with him a lot more). However in a weird way, and hear me out... its a slasher franchise. One that was trying to find new life with new protags, in a weird way, dying seems like a right of passage? So in that sense, Dewey had a really powerful character arc, because I think he was haunted by never being able to save his own sister... but he died saving someone else's sister. That, idea helps, as far as the pain of the loss. Its still a brutal gut punch. Like we are supposed to hate it, I sort of feel like one of the three original had to die at some point, and the Dewey and Gail story was... Like a rollercoaster, they break up, get back together, break up... It needed something to sort of force it, and now Deweys's final memories of Gail, were his last and he seemed happy about that. Which is kind of sweet. Sad but sweet (sort of like how he would eat his breakfast each morning watching her on TV), like thats really really sad... some people might even say a bit pathetic and that he should move on, but I think its in character, he is a hopeless romantic and still obviously in love with her, just he can't resolve that with living somewhere else. Gail just has more trauma to go on top of all the other trauma, ditto with Sydney. Which kinda sucks, but so much trauma has also chiselled them into badasses so like... Maybe its because more time has passed for me, but in hindsight, it felt like a "good death" and fitting for the character and their arc. Mind you, it also didn't take me out of the movie either, and if it did for anyone, I can understand how that would negatively impact the rest of the movie for them. I was sad, but not distracted. I also liked many of the new characters as much as the older characters too. Certain characters, more likeable. Many first time watchers don't really like Gail in the first movie either. This time, i really liked Sam, Tara and Mindy. I also think my feelings might be different if I binged all of them within the same week. Oh, I do have one small issue though. How TF Amber, in being so small, and light, was able to over power Dewey. Sure element of surprise, but her and Ritchie were so different size wise, and she was the Ghostface in that scene. I swear the Ghostface mask gives minor super powers or something. I do think his death scene could have been written better.

Just have to remember it’s a new timeline like the newest Halloween trilogy. Dewey can always come back in a different timeline that starts before this film so long as David Arquette agrees to return. Great video!❤ Watching this was surreal I believe we had the same reactions to every scene. lol But I’m glad you like it I have fallen in love with it. It has questionable decisions and many mistakes but overall they Impressed me with a lot of great ideas. My favorite is how they made a new type of final girl who made her own new rule to horror films. Plus how savage she got with Richie at the end, loved that. Sidney will always be my all time favorite final girl but now Sam is right up there with her, practically tied. It would be a dream if Williamson starts off “7” somewhere in the timeline with Dewey still around but also still writes the core 4 and such into the story for us so we can keep them. Will end it here before it gets any longer I’m off to your next video in this particular series and stoked to see your thoughts and reactions. lol But again though great work 🔥

Scream is my ALL TIME FAVOURITE FRANCHISE and listening to you how you thinking about those movies etc are very close to me :D Anyway, the reason for this comment is that: when you talking about bravery vs stupidity when comes to Dewey - I agree. However!!! I was thinking about this a lot as well. I don't call it bravery neither but I felt like the characters, who went through it 4 times has to do something more then usual then defeat, run and hope for the best. I feel him coming back to "finish the ghostface" comes from the long, painful experience - almost as if he thinks if he won't do it now, more people will die (as in previous events/sequels) and that is the reason of him coming back. That is the reason why he would have massive issue later on if the Ghostface would escape/survive again - that "learning from your previous mistakes" mindset. Well, anyway, can't wait for you watching Scream 6 :)

As a Scream fan I’ve been loving your reactions and watching one of my fave KZbinrs turn into a Scream fan, but it did break my heart watching your reactions to Gale and Dewey being broken up, and Dewey dying ofc, seeing someone else watch it for the 1st time makes it hurt more, even though I’ve rewatched this movie like 5 times (still my least fave in the franchise) that scene hurts every time. I hate that they did it just as much as any other Scream fan, however I think it hurt just a little less for me maybe bc I’m a newer Scream fan, I watched the movies completely out of order (this was the 2nd one I watched, I started with 6), I’d had a lot of TikTok spoilers about the characters, and also maybe I’m just used to getting emotionally attached to fictional characters who end up dying idk 🤷♀️ I do like the symbolism of him not being able to save his sister in the 1st one and then him saving Sam’s sister in this one though. I love how until the end he was the same Dewey we knew and loved, he didn’t have to die but it is what it is. I’m so sad that this reaction series is almost over, and yea Scream 5 is def a weaker remake compared to the others, but trust me Scream 6 is so much better. I’m a little biased bc it was the 1st one I watched, and granted Sidney isn’t in it (but Gale is though), but the overall quality of the movie is just so much better than 5. A big cast full of good characters, they upped the kill scenes, and it pays homage to Scream 2 in a few ways while still continuing on from the events of Scream 5 and being its own movie, if that makes sense. No spoilers obvs but there’s decent villains and it’s just such a good horror movie, I don’t think you’ll be too disappointed ❤️

Interesting to watch your reaction! I think this film is very divisive when it comes to certain aspects of it among the franchise. I certainly enjoy a lot of elements of it and was really really excited to see it in theatres and to get back into obsessing over this franchise that I had kind of forgotten about for a few years honestly. As for Dewey… I do agree that the scene itself where he died was more shocking and not as impactful as it could have even when it comes to the character and story and can understand why someone wouldn’t like it. I think going into this film I thought they would do something like this or at least wanted them to do something that didn’t feel as ‘safe’ so I was okay with that decision especially with the transition Sidney and Gale reuniting afterwards and having their ending moment of the film. But I think the fact that so many people are affected by that scene and decision is such a testament to how loveable of a character he was and how much the characters mean to people, especially within a slasher franchise. I also agree when it comes to all the call backs For me, it didn’t feel as much that I was watching the original again as much as it felt like Scream 4 again as that film was meant to be the beginning of a new trilogy and commenting on remakes/reboots and therefor had many many references to bring that together which worked very well. Of course, that trilogy never happened and in essentially rebooting the franchise again, it also makes sense why they’d do that again and particularity with the intention of honouring Wes Craven’s (former director of 1-4) legacy after passing away, it all feels very purposeful. So I guess the constant call back to the original after having a film that did just that feels repetitive yet within the circumstances, I can understand the reasoning behind it which I think also makes more sense given that I saw 4 and 5 in theatres 11 years apart versus you seeing them nearly back-to-back like you said! Overall, I really do like this entry. I think it does what it needs to do. I love seeing the legacy characters, the homages, the new ways it circles everything back and the excitement of the franchise starting again in a new way. It’s simple and more classic and I think that works in its favour. But after a few rewatches, I do not find this film to be as rewatchable as other entries so while I think it’s a good Scream film and nearly among the best, it just doesn’t live in my mind too much after the fact. But does what it needs to do. Scream 6 is really fun, I would compare my feelings watching it to how I feel about Scream 4, which I love. I’m excited to see you watch it!

Fun Facts: 1. The Original Scream cast did voice overs Drew Barrymore (Casey Becker) was the principal on the intercom in the beginning. Also, yes Matthew Lillard (Stu) was the one in the KZbin channel doing the medal ghostface voice and at the party he's the one that said " Cool house" to Amber when she was walking through. Jamie Kennedy (Randy) was the one who made the comment about the "some goofy ass dad is here kicking everyone out." Hayden (Kirby), principal Himbry, and others from the franchise were part of the "For Wes" shout out. 2. Also, on that KZbin channel, the first clip on the side of the screen it was an Easter egg that confirmed Kirby survived from Scream 4. It was her doing an interview about being a survivor. Then below hers, there's another clip asking if Stu Macher is still alive or not, lol. Kirby and Stu had been a HUGE debate with the fans whether or not they both survived. So they confirmed it with Kirby, but with Stu, they gave us a teaser. 3. When Chad picked up the candle stick as a weapon, it was a reference to when Sidney grabbed a candle stick in Scream 3 to defend herself with against Roman in the final act. 4. Sidneys husband Mark is Detective Mark Kincaid from Scream 3. 5. Wes Hicks Kill Scene, where he closed the front door. No one told Dylan that ghostface would be behind him in that scene, so his reaction to it was legit, lol. 6. Even though Mindy said to Wes about his mom being safe but yet they got killed anyway. Two reasons: 1st is they killed the Sherrif and her son as a decoy/distraction to lure the cops away from the hospital their main target was Tara. 2nd reason they killed off Wes, who is a reference for "Wes Craven," it was their way of having a memorial for Wes Craven in the movie. He died a few years after he made the 4th, so this one was like a love letter to him 8. At the hospital, when GF appeared behind Richie, he got his arm sliced similar to when Jill got hers sliced by GF in Scream 4.
