Lyrics:
Did you hear the distant cry
Calling me back to my sin
Like the one you knew before
Calling me back once again
I nearly, I nearly lost you there
And it's taken us somewhere
I nearly lost you there
Let's try to sleep now
Drag me far enough to know
I'm blind every mile that you burn
There's a rider that's fallen and
It's clear there's no time to return

My favorite Mark Lanegan moment: It was pretty basic but utterly perfect. Screaming Trees at the Gorge in George, Washington - I don’t remember if it was a Lollapalooza or something else. My friend and I had great seats front and center right behind the pit. I was coming back to our seats right when ST started Nearly Lost You with that great guitar riff into those drums. As soon as he started singing I threw my arms in the air and skipped down the aisle in utter joy and made people laugh- perfect weather, great seats, great show and unimaginably gorgeous view. Every time I hear that song it rivets me to that moment. A perfect day. #ripmarklanegan

That's beautiful! It's funny how the most memorable concerts are only party due to the performance. Rather, it's when a number of variables come together (weather, who you're with, substances, etc), and you find yourself in that perfect moment being reminded that you're alive! Thanks for sharing.

Screaming Trees very underrated, but not by me and others viewing this. They just had the misfortune to being in Seattle/Washington State with the other good to great grunge era bands of the late 80's/early 90's. So, they kind of went under the radar even in their home state. R.I.P. to Van and Mark. The really sad thing is with so many good grunge singers like Mark being gone is that there won't be many great grunge reunion concert tours in the future.

I had no idea that this man rested in peace and was now sleeping in the deep sleep. God bless you, all your fans, and your family. The reason is that I am an old school rock and roller, not much into the new music. And here I go, trying to find new music, and it's already over 10 years old, and the guy isn't even around anymore. This made cry, man. God bless you and all the musicians, always.

Being a 1994 HS Graduate I feel sad that I can't relive the enjoyment of hearing new bands of the grunge area make it big with hits like this. Everything is so commercialized, polished, and fake these days. Being a freshman in HS when grudge really got big, looking back on it, was really an experience. IT's like over night, everyone's music tastes changes. The hairbands all seemed to disappear. Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Screaming Trees, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, and many others became the new normal on the airwaves. Music videos actually meant something back then and they told a story. I'll say this to the kids, as it was said to me by my own Dad. Enjoy life now, it goes fast. In a blink of an eye you go from 18 and looking forward to college to 45 and middle age with a family, mortgage, and probably 30 years left to live. Your body begins to fail you, but your mind feels as fresh as the days you were in high school.

A life not in vain. His vocals will teach generations to come. He is what Morrison could have been if he had a measure of this discipline to his craft. One more thing, if there are not animated stories to his songs, look into producing some. This man's talents are being blatantly overlooked. Never underestimate a voice. This Man is in the league of cornell, morrison, van morrison, t-rex Karen Carpenter . Don't sweep him under the rug, he was a truly bright soul.

I loved this song and the band so much in high school/college. I loved his voice. I saw them at an outdoor venue in San Antonio Texas. They were playing with Soul Asylum and the Spin Doctors . It was 100+ degrees and the venue was afraid people were gonna get heatstroke so they turned on water hoses and sprayed the whole crowd, which was most welcome but made a ton of mud! I will never forget that day. My friends and I bought 1 shirt from each band and would each wear one and then pass to the the next friend the next week so we each got to show off the different bands. RIP Mark.

This is one of my all time faves. I grew up with alternative back in the 90s. I was in my early 20s. Hearing this makes me so nostalgic and sad. They dont make music like this anymore. My two teenage daughters literally cry because they hate the music thats out there now and they tell me how lucky their dad and I are to have grown up during the 90s. But wow, finding out that two members of this great band passed away recently is heartbreaking. Makes me even more sad and I realize that were getting old. Rest peacefully guys. ❤
