Great stuff.. might risk it myself! I can't wait for a mod to stop those random ghost noises when the trap isn't 'full', though. They drive me nuts.
@PeaceLoveAndGuns5 күн бұрын
THANK YOU! Frankly, I think they're awful. The trap really needs a plugged-in display mode and a prop/cosplay mode that stays on without random sounds. I feel like that wasn't very well thought out. As for trying it yourself, go for it! Take your time. Have a gentle hand. Put some music on or some playlist or podcast and enjoy the process. If I can do it, you can do it! Could the rewiring of the bar graph be done from the other end that's attached to the graph board maybe taking less stuff apart?
@PeaceLoveAndGuns3 күн бұрын
Hey, @CaptainMcPunch, that’s a great question! I think it COULD be done with enough care but that side isn’t a normal jst male and female connector. It’s like the individual wire terminations each are slid over direct surface mount pins for the board. I tugged one side up a little, maybe half a mm, but it didn’t slide off easily like I’ve seen some similar things do in the past. It may be glued or crimped or I just didn’t reef on it hard enough… but it doesn’t feel like it’s intended to come off. My recommendation, take the trap apart. Ten screws and some fiddling with wires will be easier than breaking a connector on the board. Thanks for the comment and do please consider supporting for free by hitting Like and Subscribing!

Fun fact: the trap with the yellow rods was a prototype that appears very briefly in both GB1 AND GB2

So I’m not sure why you took the doors off and on? Was it just to remove the little arms?
@PeaceLoveAndGunsКүн бұрын
I took them off in the first place to get to the gearbox and open it. I put them on and took them off again to demonstrate what it would look like if you have door gear misaligned and to encourage ensuring they are aligned before putting the rest of the trap back together. Does changing the wiring mess with the other bar graph animations, or do those still function properly?

Nice, what other mods do you have planned? I’d like to replace the metal switch on the trap with a more accurate one, and the red light lens. And the wheels, when somebody makes some 84/89 wheels.
@PeaceLoveAndGuns5 күн бұрын
Hey, @andy86i, the stock switch doesn't bother me but one mod I'm thinking about it designing a cosplay safety mode for it. Personally, I think the rumble is god awful, both too loud and not powerful enough combined with low speaker volume and quality, so! I'm just thinking about it now, but I'm going to reace the switch, probably a SPDT switch to DPDT (single pole dual throw to dual pole dual throw), so that single switch and turn on and off two circuits (dual pole) simultaneously. This would enable me to make the rearward On to set as the Rumble On Mode (but disconnect the rumble and still retain the lights on you get for "service mode") and then make the forward On toggle the power of and on the second circuit, break the continuity of the door motors so that the trap doesn't open while holstered - necessitating opening the gearbox again. Forward position is also most like to get bumped into while cosplaying (downward) at the renfest and drinking a little. I'm sure I'll want to tinking with some other stuff when I get into the back, too. I really want to make it is usbc rechargeable with battery bank functionality too, if there's space. And maybe a higher quality speaker.
@Falleen013 күн бұрын
Does it still function if you leave the motor unplugged? Its way too loud for me and I can barely hear the trap noises because of it.
@PeaceLoveAndGuns3 күн бұрын
I’ve not tried it yet, but I will be! The rumble motor is actually in the trap carriage instead of the cartridge. My guess is it will almost certainly still work. Thanks for the comment and do please supporting for free by hitting Like and Subscribing!

modders are braver than me, an expensive thing to break and can't really buy another one. Gutted here in the UK we gotta wait longer due to delayed shipping
@PeaceLoveAndGuns5 күн бұрын
I'm sorry to hear that. It does give time and opportunity to know what/if anything you do want to mod though! There's lots of good work going on in the community right now. As for being braver, not so much. It's like climbing/canyoneering, you don't ascend/descend an area if you're not confident you can come back the opposite way. You take some screws out, you take a peak, put it all back. Maybe you go a little further next time and gently unplug some stuff. See how it all works. Occasionally you do break stuff when modding but it's all fixable. Take your time, take pictures and have fun. If I can do it, you can do it. Ah PH000 will fit through the plug hole and you can back out the screw inside without doing anything to the plug. The only ones you HAVE to remove are the smaller ones on each lower side of the graph, I used a 1.3mm hex to slip in and pry them off then my PH0 to take out the screws.

Somebody discovered that the 1984 wheels are just skate bearings.. and they modded the trap with them. also skate spacers, and long screws. Not sure how the mod is done exactly, or which screws to buy..
@PeaceLoveAndGuns16 сағат бұрын
@@andy86i Oh yeahhhhh, 84 and 89 traps, definitely. People been using photo references for decades for those. I’m tempted to switch mine but the big wheels probably rolls better for live demos on rougher ground than the skate bearing that are like half the size. I definitely agree they look better, but it’s clear the ghostbusters had in-universe reasons for larger wheels even if they’re not as cool looking. I fear if I change mine out, I’d also have to contend with the vhook dragging unless that gets modded, too. you cant just flip the bar graph board so it goes the other direction?
@PeaceLoveAndGuns5 күн бұрын
It won't fit in the stock holes if you physically you could flip it. The yellow bulb and IR receiver would be on the wrong side. You can just flip the middle part because if you look at the design of the PCB. There are traces that go all the way across for the bulb-looking diode and for the IR receiver. @ well, I was taking apart the cartridge just to see what the inside is like because I plan on upgrading the panels with aluminum and of course the only non easy installment panel is the front panel with the 4 switches. Requires you to dissemble from the inside. Anyway went to put it pack together and when I tested it, the doors were clicking and halfway open. Took it apart again, and I accidentally ripped off the negative wire on the battery compartment. Then I said “no mas” lol and gave up on it hoping there’d be someone who can repair it for me. I have someone first in line to repair and modify it but in case he can’t fix it I wouldn’t mind sending it out to you for repair
