Buy a lightning to hdmi adapter from Bestbuy. It should be plug and play and should work 100%. Which ever one you buy from Bestbuy or Amazon you can always return them. Let me know if it works for you

The lighting to hdmi adapter has an hdmi and usb port, you can try to connect a mouse to the usb port. Let me know if it works. Good luck
