Screen Printing Workbench

I was commissioned to build a workbench for a local Seattle screen print and letterpress artist. She needed an anchor for her studio and we worked out a little trade discount for my time and her art. She had an idea of what she wanted and after sitting down at a local coffeeshop, we hammered out the details and I got to work. The center tray storage had to be light-tight, so I put a little extra though into that. She wanted space to store her squeegees and assorted paint, so that was incorporated into the design. Bing, bang, boom, 27 man-hours later, she had a bench.

Hi, this is *very* cool and nice work. Thanks for putting it up. Wondering: did you ever do the vacuum table you mentioned? Does it sit on top of the bench? If so, doesn’t that raise the workspace another four or more inches, perhaps making it a bit uncomfortable to do work on it? Thanks.

Hi, Thank you. No, I didn't end up doing the vacuum table. I still have all the parts, but it just didn't happen. It would have raised the work height about 2 more inches. There was concern over the 1/4" holes and their effect on the print and so the idea did not go forward. I have another project slated for the plastic pegboard, i need another 1/2 sheet of it actually and I can reuse the vacuum fitting somewhere else,so I am not out any $$ for the vac table that never was.

Hi Jose. Thanks for the compliment, I really appreciate it. The workbench was bespoke and measured 48"W X 44"L X 32"H (122cmW X 112cmL X 81cmH). I did it as a favor for a friend and did in a way sell it as I exchanged my labor for her art. She paid for materials which came to about $350. Maybe 22 hours of total labor. I would do a few things differently if ever built again: square corners, hardwood edging around the top, just one squeegee rack, doors on both ends.

I don't really have a material list of a measured drawing. the over all size is 48"W X 44"L X 32"H, the dark box interior is the size of metal print frames, and it is 34" tall with the castors. I used 2 sheets of 3/4" ply, a sheet of 1/4" ply, 8 2"x3" pine studs for structure, 1/2 sheet of Formica, a can of contact cement, 4 casters, 4 hinges, 2 knobs, 1 latch, some reclaimed oak flooring for the frame slide rails, screws, and glue. I made a sketch from the client's required dimensions and winged it from there.

HI. I hadn't drawn any up other than a sketch in my notebook and a few side notes on specific measurements. The workbench was bespoke for a friend's specific need and measured 48"W X 44"L X 32"H (122cmW X 112cmL X 81cmH). If you are really interested in building on, I can add a little detail and post a link, but it would assume some knowledge of woodworking tools and fasteners.
