Thank you so much for this, it`s a shame there aren`t more videos of this type.

I can't speak for other Aberdonians, but as a person who is passionate about the history of Aberdeen, I would like to thank Ronald Grant for saving all the Aberdeen Cinema Memorabilia that he was able to. I was due to travel from Aberdeen to London last October and hoped to visit the museum, unfortunately due to COVID the trip was cancelled. As soon as travel is allowed I will pay visit.

an absolutely fascinating video I stayed in Peterhead and remember going to the ABC and queuing up Union Streets to see Jaws and Star Wars I also didn't appreciate the hard work involved in being a projectionist those RCA amplifiers are massive I now own a Dolby Atmos home cinema in a dedicated 6x 6 x2.4 meter room using a projector and 138" diagonal screen and feel spoiled with how compact everything is in comparison

Your video brought back many memories of the old Aberdeen cinemas. Hard to believe now that Pathe and Movietone news would be played between films. I'm too young to remember the Astoria Cinema, but as a child being taken to Donald's Ice rink in Spring Garden by my parents, I remember the large rubber door mats from the Astoria were used at the ice rink back in the early 1960s. The photo of the school party outside the old Cosmo 2 made me wonder if I was perhaps in the crowd, as I remember a school outing to see Hamlet there, probably around 1972. The behaviour of today's young people in cinemas would never have been tolerated back in the 1960's. Any loud talking or disruptive conduct was swiftly dealt with by the commossionaire, who would issue a warning, then physically remove any badly behaved brat from the venue. I think a lot of these guys were ex-army, and didnt tolerate any nonsense. The Rose Street church that had to be cleared of equipment was actually turned into a night club in the early 1960s called "The Place", and I remember seeing deliveries being made while walking home from the Grammar School around 1964 - 1965.

Have you ever heard of an Aberdeen Actor his name was Vincent Winter. He was born in 1947 and died 1998 . He starred in a few Disney films when he was young. I have tried to find out more about him but did not have much luck . In his late teens he gave up acting and went into film production where he was pretty successful. I may visit Aberdeen someday to try find out more . If you have any info please let me know , thanks B

From memory the Capitol last showed films in 1993 - Jurassic Park being the last film shown. Remember seeing films from Mean Streets to Reservoir Dogs in there. By the end you were sat in the balcony.
