Once I believed that research is always before everything, but now I know that writing comes before research because our story is what creates the limits and the goal for the research process. Thank you for this great video!

This channel is so helpful I just started writing again and so many videos are helping make my intuitions clearly defined “rules”

So glad it's helpful!! Rules, intuitions...they are all part of what you use. Do what works, keep trying things and making stuff up - and next thing you know you'll have something. Then you do that all again :)

Thanks for these tips Glenn! I use a spiral notebook and folder to hold printed materials, and keep digital in a separate document from my writing. I also try to include the link or other information, in case I want to revisit where I found something.

Every artists finds the tools and process that is comfortable for them. Isn't it a pleasure when you find that?

I've been keeping a Zettelkasten for my research. It's starting to pay off. I love your advice. I love the outtakes too, lol.

Interesting! Everyone has different things that help them - it's great that you're finding a method that you like!

OMG I put off writing a lot to do reserch. Actually, I have made way too many notes but haven't started writing.. and every time I tried to write I just felt like I don't have a "story-ready" understanding of my characters yet. TwT I'll go write sth now lol.

Yay! Sometimes you've got to plunge in, even when you're not ready. No one is looking, you can go back to researching later when you have more of a sense of what you need.

Do you have any other tips for making research more fun? I tend to find it the most boring part of working on my project.
@writingforscreens Жыл бұрын
I guess my main thought is: do as little as possible, and put it off for as long as you can! Try to get as much of your story down and have as much fun as you can, so when you have to do the boring stuff you feel like it's worth doing because it's helping you with a thing you already like. And mainly: how much do you really need to do? You might find, once you've written a draft, it's less than you feared. And it'll be more specific.
