Thank-you for not blasting my ears with bullshit musical jingles during your presentation. What a relief it is to find someone who doesn't think teaching a topic must be accompanied by a song 'n dance routine. Seems like most dickheads with cameras and KZbin channels are posting technical instructional videos that are more like demo tape auditions for the position as Director in a Broadway musical production. i want to know how strong are the threads on a screw? how much weight can the threads alone hold?? they look so thin . but yet feels strong

At 1:06 in the video, etprof says, "The pitch diameter is the distance between the theoretically sharp crest and the theoretically sharp root of a screw thread." A bit more could have been said there to add some clarity.

In total this is a good educational video on the basic screw thread terms. . Yes InDaPlan; I also would have preferred it if he had said Flank instead of Side.

So if im taking this correctly, the thread pitch of a bolt and the thread pitch of a nut have to match correctly in order to work? Or perhaps more variables than that. Your video answered some of my questions so thank you for that.

John McConnell You're correct, the thread pitch must be the same. Otherwise you will "cross-thread," in which one thread cuts through another. You must also consider the diameter: an M12 ( we're talking major diameter of 12mm) bolt or screw may have the same thread pitch as an M14.
