Removing the Instrument Panel (Speedometer) on a Toyota Yaris

How to remove and replace the instrument panel (speedometer) on a 1999 to 2005 Toyota Yaris and change the bulbs. They are T5 12 volt, 1.2 watt 286 wedge bulbs. Thanks for watching, please comment, like and subscribe !.

I think the mileage is stored on the instrument cluster but I'm not 100% positive about that. If you swap the cluster from another vehicle then I think your mileage will change to what's on the new cluster.

@@mikemars3206 I had to change my speedo display on my yaris a few years ago as my one failed. Unfortunately the mileage reading does not update to the true mileage on the ecu. It displays whatever miles are stored in the replacment clock. One thing to note is that the clocks are different depending if you vehicle was built in Japan or France. They are not interchangeable so make sure your replacment comes from a vehicle built in the same country!

Have you had any problems with the radio? Mine doesn't pick up radio stations.. connections in the back of the radio seem ok. Besides that with 215.000km never had any problems.

No, I never had problems with the radio stations although mine had an after market stereo installed when I got it.

Hi ! My pannel (almost) stopped working and keep failing showing me the number. I wan't to change it with a second hand one :) Are we suppose to disconnect the car's battery before doing that ? Is it safe if we don't ? Thanks a lot for that video and your help :)

It's possible that some bulbs have failed but it could also be a problem with the mail instrument panel unit

I'm not sure. It sounds like a problem with the CD player. Does the CD player work ok ?. Is it an aftermarket player or the original Toyota one ?

My Yaris had stopped showing me traveled kilometres and the dashed lines for the available fuel. It's like the connection is not that good,as sometimes is showing them for a second and then disappear again. What do you think it's the problem? Thank you in advance :) .

I don't know to be honest. If it's an intermittent problem, maybe of the connector plug wires could be loose ?

It sounds like a loose or bad connection somewhere but I've never come across that problem, sorry.

It could be a loose door lock or catch or it could be a problem with the sensor on the rear door. It's built into the locking mechanism. Some yaris's have a switch for the bonnet too which could be faulty.

You will probably have to pick one up in a car dismantlers or maybe you could get get one on ebay. I don't think they manufacture new units any more.

Your best bet would be to check out a car dismantler or breakers yard and buy a used one or you might find one on ebay.

Try this: While inside the vehicle, turn your key once in the ignition to enter accessory mode. Find the trip reset button on or near your steering wheel. Hold this button for a few seconds. Make sure that your odometer is displayed and your headlights are off when you do this. You should see your units switch from kilometers to miles.

I don't know where you can buy a new one. You might get one on Ebay or you could look in a car salvage yard and buy a used one ?

If the main display isn't showing, the unit itself could be faulty. If it's a blown fuse you should be able to locate it here: fuse-box.info/toyota/toyota-yaris-echo-vitz-xp10-1999-2005-fuses-and-relay
