I’m late, but there is something about that piano. Specifically the amazing tone of those bass notes. But all the sound, it’s like the piano is in complete agony and just screaming. It’s incredible, as was the performances on it

I come here every month and re-listen to this masterpiece performance. It has all the advantages of Horowitz and Sultanov performance. I like that Sultanov is not the only one who plays the middle voice in the middle.

I played on this piano when Horowitz' widow did send it around the world in the late eighties. In Amsterdam it landed with Ypma pianos and I had to make a reservation for half an hour. I did play Chopin's étude Op. 25 nbr. 1 several times. The piano was playing very light, as Horowitz had the keys regulated on 44 grams. Indeed the bass notes on this piano are amazing and sounded the same as in a Horowitz rendition. In this étude from Scriabin, Mr. Russo could really use these bass notes.

Wow, one of the best interpretations of this piece I've ever heard. Dear Sandro, you are playing this etude with such an overwhelming passion! The middle part is just mindblowing! And what a fire in the repeating third part! The whole development of the central line is extremely colourful and convincing. And everything is due to a mature and talented musician, not only a pianist. Sure, the grand piano is perfect too, but it's the pianist who makes it sound in that emotional way. You should take a piano as a fate without being choosy and manage to show the composer's internal world through your own soul despite the various qualities of a piano. The revival of the piece is mostly up to a musician. The instrument is just a supporting medium. I think so. Bravo Maestro!!!

@xistr ...This piano was used through the early 1980's and was the instrument he played and recorded in London. As well, he played this piano at the Met twice. I was there for both concerts. He played his first concert in Tokyo on CD-75 and he played the piano all through touring the USA in that era. (it continues...)

@xistr Here is a message from the owner of this piano. It's in two parts because of its length. Dear xistr, While you are correct in that Horowitz never owned CD-75, you are incorrect in that this instrument was not in Horowitz's home. In fact, I am the current owner and I have a letter from the Steinway & Sons Concert Department indicating that it was craned in and out of his East 94th Street home twice. (it continues...)
