I’m actually glad Rankin-Bass added the epilogue of Rudolph returning to the Island of Misfit Toys with Santa to rescue the Misfit Toys. Not only is it satisfying seeing Rudolph keeping his promise and the Misfit Toys being dropped off by one of Santa’s elf from Santa’s sleigh during the end credits, but it actually gives the Island of Misfit Toys sequence narrative purpose because without seeing Rudolph return and keeping his promise or the Misfit Toys again, the sequence where Rudolph, Hermie and Yukon Cornelius discover the island and meet the Misfit Toys would’ve been just another detour for a song number and introducing more colorful characters that won’t have as much a large role in the special.

Just a minor clarification but Virginia Patton Moss was the last ADULT credited cast member, she wasn't 6. There were (and still are) a few of the kids still living (the actresses who played Zuzu and Janey, along with child versions of Mary and Violet and actors who played Tommy Baily, and I think the actor who played child, Sam Wainwright). That's at least what I heard. Patton Moss died recently so there are no adult credited cast members alive.
@Rusty3659 Жыл бұрын
We lost another of the child cast members earlier this year. Jeannen Roos, who played the young Violet in the beginning of the film, was a radio actress, who played Phil Harris and Alice Faye's youngest daughter on their radio show. She passed away in early May.
@RadioLaPrincess Жыл бұрын
@@Rusty3659 Yeah after I posted that I Googled and saw she passed. I'm a bit confused about young Mary, some sources say she died in 1988, while others say she's still living. Apparently, there were a few Jean Gale's and all had different ages. There was one from 1926 and 1912 who state they are the same but young Mary wouldn't be old enough to have been born in those years.

Plus, it’s hard to make a sequel with both Ed Asner (Santa Claus) and James Caan (Walter Hobbs) sadly dead now. Sure, it’d be easy to have Walter Hobbs pass away in a sequel, but it’d be hard to get another character who could play Santa as well as Ed Asner. Ed Asner is one-of-kind and just cannot be replicated.

The Gift of Light is a weird case, not so much being lost media per se, but being completely forgotten media. Hard not to see why, as there were a LOT of forgettable one shot Christmas specials produced back in the 90's. Something that (at least in the States) would have aired on a random Saturday or Sunday afternoon with little or no promotion. Think Rapsitte Kids only not even legendarily bad enough to be memorable or mysterious. The fact it was meant as an actual series, quite possibly sold to a Christian network, makes it all the more interesting. They made the pilot a Christmas episode so that if it didn't go to series, they could still air it annually and sell it as a Holiday VHS. I've noticed a few of those before, but all I can remember is something called "Hollywood Hounds," which seems like a more aggressive attempt at a series and toyline. I think I saw it once, and it was instantly forgettable had I not seen a bunch of the VHS at some liquidation outlet. Either came with a plush toy or a book.

Um, on an American phone at least, each number corresponds to 3 or 4 letters of the alphabet. There are 7 numbers not counting the area code/800 prefix in an American telephone number. "Spank me" is seven letters. (I can't post the numbers to which they correspond because YT auto-deletes the message.) Anyone with an American phone could have figured this out. So, this story may not have been a hoax.
@ScribblestoScreen Жыл бұрын

I think it's a hoax because of the 800 part. 800 numbers were usually toll free, and the numbers that cost money were generally 900. Naughty lines and also wrestling companies that used it to get money from curious young fans. I never called one of the sex lines, but I called a pro wrestling illustrated 900 line to get the results of a PPV. I got into some trouble, but less than I would have gotten into if it had been a sex 900 number. I heard my dad say to my mom something like "at least it wasn't---".

In regards to The Santa Clause, even though the scene doesn't display the number you forget that each number on a phone's number pad corresponds with 3 letters as you often see phone words explicitly for advertising. See the ads for JG Wentworth as an example. More inquisitive kids may have been able to put 2 and 2 together. I'm more inclined to believe that the $400 phone bill itself is a tall tale though.

There was an old cartoon, black and white, involved some sort of ghosts, and it was set during Christmastime, but it was a little on the spooky side and it had some morbid moments. The only version of it i ever saw was a rough recording on a videocassette that someone happened to record it on when when was a child, so I'm not even sure who made it. I actually headcanon that The Lego Movie is the sequel to Elf. Both feature Will Ferrell as a character who is fantastic at building with LEGOs. I like to think that after spending so many years in the "human" world, Buddy gradually lost his childlike spark and became the jaded businessman we see in the movie. Buddy's daughter Susie is either an entirely unseen oldest child in the movie, or is the little sister and it just turns out Elf skipped over showing that he had a son first (in the stage musical version of Elf, Buddy DOES have a son, though).
