@@scrimperuk been maxing out on your channel! Lots of great stuff as I'm setting up my workshop. Have a scrollsaw but haven't taken it out of it's box yet, also looking to build a router table. Would love a video workshop tour if you have the time!

I have often considered doing a video tour of my workshop but am a bit concerned that it might appear as if I am 'bragging' although I have to say I am always interested in viewing other workshops. it's finding the time to do filming at the moment as I am busy overhauling my cycles, doing up an old hand cart plus 101 other jobs around the house. I have to be in the mood to get the camera out and at the moment I am not motivated although I do have lot's of ideas plus I have to finish my Whirligig videos. :)

I find those Square plastic Gutters are good for Propellors John i cut them out on the Bandsaw made one 3 yuears ago and the props are still as fitted

You can make them any size or length you want, in this case I think it's about 18" fan to tail. most of mine I start on a base about 24" long usually the timber is 2 1/2" x 1" x 24". The one in this video is different in that it's a short broader base. In my opinion the bigger they are the more effective they look, when I finish I always wish I had made them a bit bigger!

What would diy'ers do without Meccano. Over the years I've used bits from my old metal Meccano on various diy jobs. As a new viewer I'm enjoying your videos.

Thank you for your kind comment Alan. Most people of my generation played with Meccano and I think we are the better for it what else teaches engineering whilst at the same time enjoyable play. A lot of today's young ones would better understand mechanical things if they used Meccano rather than have their eyes glued to smart phones.

I often use the collars taken from scrap Meccano wheels or use old terminals from electrical items. I talk about it in one of my videos.

Do you ever have a problem with them not wanting to stay nicely to the wind but, can not seem to find just the right spot to point to so wobbles back and forth when you want it to be steady ?

I think I got the idea from a book, you don't have to be precise, just draw a rough outline and cut it out. Once it's outside spinning around on a post it will look good however basic the figures are.

Is M.D.F worth using for the figures ????

i would definitely avoid MDF , there is no grain to give strength to the figures and no matter how much paint or varnish you apply they will not last. I would suggest that MDF would be about the worst material you could use to be honest. One can always find the odd piece of scrap wood to make figures for example the wooden arms of an old armchair are often beech wood or the odd bit of oak. Some of my whirligig parts are cut from the hedge. :)

Is your base plate 3 x 1 or 2 x 1 please

Most of them are around 1inch (25mm) x 2.5 - 3inches (63mm - 76mm) but they can be any size really. :)
