The Keeling Curve Turns 50

Keeling is a classic case of someone doing critical work that most people had no interest in. He was almost defunded by Ronald Reagan in the early 80s when the big Creationist anti-science push got started. Its legacy is still with us, unfortunately. There's an article at AIP called "Money for Keeling: Monitoring CO2 Levels" which gives insight into the many forces trying to kill these monitoring programs. It's a good thing he was stubborn enough to fight for his work.

And nowadays the denialism industry has far better funding and louder voices than the real climate science. This regression doesn't give us much near-term hope of seeing a downward deflection in the Keeling Curve.

I only searched out this video because the Keelings are cousins of mine. I haven't actually met them so it is interesting to see what they look like. We live in different countries but one day maybe we will make it to the States! I do actually find the subject interesting too!
