When I was a teen, I wrote out the whole Bible. It took years! But I'm glad I did it

so cool! How many notebooks did it take? You still have it?

Thank you for your tips. I was listening to Bible classes conducted by Fr Daniel Poovannathil in my Indian language as well as Fr Mike Schmitz. I went overseas for 2 month's holiday. I got very distracted and added to it had no WiFi so there was no way I could continue the beautiful classes of Fr Mike. I did not want to give up on my journey of reading the Bible and so decided to write small chapters from the Bible. 1 week later I got very interested and started writing 2 to 3 chapters per day and from 1 December 2022 to 31 January 2023 I wrote the 4 Gospels completely. Believe me I enjoyed writing and even realised that there were many things that I missed when I read the Bible. I have decided to start all over from Genesis and upto Revelation. It is my hearts desire. I know there is going to be heaps of temptations and obstacles. But it's Gods Word and I am confident that God will not forsake my plan. God bless

I'm a guy viewer. I'm not sure why videos about transcribing the Bible came up but it definitely got my attention. Back in the mid- or late-1980's or thereabouts I copied out the Gospels, Psalms and some of my personal favorite Scriptures into business ledgers. I didn't keep the ledgers but took them to university library in my town and put them among the books in the stacks so that people could find them. I left a note with each book but no name or contact information, just signed the notes "A Christian friend", I think. It would be very interesting to know who eventually found those books and what happened to them and to the people who found them. God's Word doesn't come back void. Even if no one read what I wrote or was influenced by it, the study and writing did ME good.---I'm posting this comment in July of 2020 here in the U.S. while we are in a strange, dark time that will probably only get worse. It may be in the near future that Bibles will be confiscated and destroyed but handwritten copies of Scripture may be overlooked and maybe used by people who want Scripture but no longer have printed copies of the Bible. What you have been writing as part of your devotions may be not just a blessing but a lifeline for someone in the future.

Very cool! Maybe explore doing it again, it has been a very fruitful practice for me personally!

@@TheLifeofaHomemaker That's an excellent idea: I may get back to copying out Scripture. I have a box of blank books of different sizes that I use for diaries but those books could also be used for Scripture.

That's a great vision you have. I think it is a great way to learn the Word and to leave it as a blessing for another. Thanks for the idea!

Just a tip for anyone who wants a journal like the moleskine but is on a smaller budget, Walmart has similar notebooks for around $5 :)

Scripture writing has changed my life too. As a homeschooling mama I was always putting my Bible study/reading on the back burner. I started about 6 months ago. I have always been one who enjoys and learns better when I write things down.

I’ve just started a bit & it’s helping me memorize. I really struggle to memorize. This is a great inspiration! Thanks for sharing your journal & pen. I do want a journal that will preserve it. I watched a video of a woman who over the years has written the entire bible. It’s my goal! I will start verse by verse! What a testimony to share with your children & aa they get older they may want to do it as well!

What a brilliant idea! I will try it out! In my household, listening to the Bible being read aloud via the Bible app has transformed my life as well! I’ll put it on during quiet time, washing dishes, getting ready in the morning/evening. I’ve been able to listen to the whole New Testament in the past few months. It sinks in a different way, similar to writing scripture, alongside reading it of course.

Yes! Fruitful and powerful are very good words to describe this discipline. I love it. My heart yearns for it when I'm doing other things. I can remember SO much after I write scripture out. Amazing!

Thank you for this. I heard about Scripture writing a couple of months ago and tried it. But I tried to make it too decorative and fancy and then when things were hectic I stopped. I like that you just do the writing and don't worry about making it fancy. I think I'd have a much greater chance of sticking with it if I didn't try to be fancy about it. I like how you said you have done full books of the Bible. Thank you so much.

I’ve been using the scripture journaling bible to do my scripture writing, I absolutely love it. I’ve don’t 1&2 Peter and Jude now I’m writing out Romans and I love how it makes me stop and really meditate on what I’m writing. In the Old Testament the king was told to copy the law obviously it was important they did so, we should do it all the more.

Scripture writing is something I began recently with the book of Philippians, it has been a huge blessing in helping me concentrate deeply.

I did this years ago (probably when I was homeschooling more than any other!) and have been thinking of getting back into it. I read, study, pray and say the Word ... I love writing it more than all! I do still write a lot of it in the way of verses, for topic studies and such but there is something very healing and nurturing in writing it like you shared here!

I love the idea of just writing books out. I've done a few 'topic' plans, and while I do enjoy it I don't find I learn an awful lot except taking away a few little 'devotional' thoughts without any real understanding of the book itself X

Love this. Years ago I started Scripture writing with monthly topical lists too. When I did, I wasn’t even sure why people were doing it, so I was shocked when it became the favorite part of my day … every day, first thing in the morning. I just switched to writing out the entire Bible in an interleaved Bible. I’m loving it! I see this video is a couple of years old, how much of the Bible do you have written out now?

Hi from Louisiana! I just came across your video, and you have inspired me to give this a try as well. I see you write out each verse individually, and I like that idea. I feel that doing this will make the Lord’s words really sink in, into my brain AND my heart! Thank you! You have a very nice handwriting, too. 😇 Meline
