Mark yes on the Olson blades. #5 reverse tooth will do most of your work. Order a gross from the Olson website

Thanks for this video. Was clear and to the point. Two things: I wish you had mentioned the size of the blade you were using. And I set up the name I am going to carve in MS Word or Powerpoint, then print that on a full-page sticky label. I then apply blue tape to my wood and stick the label to it. The label + tape then comes off easily after scrolling, and leaves no residue to clean off. The blue tape also adds a little lubrication to the process. This way you have unlimited fonts without cutting and maintaining stencils. Oh. Third thing: I make sure the bottom edge of my project is straight and smooth (table saw here) and place the label about 1/4” from that edge. This leaves a base for the letters to stand on. Ok, fourth thing: sand both sides of the wood before scrolling.

Good tips. I bought a gross of blades about 20 years ago, I think they were #5. I just got more Olson blades, #9 skiptooth. Not too dond of the skiptooth. They don't last as long

I'm a newbie so I'll leave it to you to pick what and how. How do I know if I've got the right tension on the blade? Is there a list for this blade for this kinda wood, etc,,.
@regularguy6501
@regularguy6501 Жыл бұрын
The blade description will tell you what it's applications are. And for tension, when cutting the stock, if the blade bends more than 1/8" you need to tighten it. For the soft wood I reccomend a #9, but not a skiptooth. They are good at removing sawdust but because they only have half as many teeth, they don't last as long. Olson or Flying Dutchman are the brands I suggest.

What is the font of the letters that you are using. Did you cut them out yourself? If so what kind of acrylic did you use?
@regularguy6501
@regularguy6501 9 ай бұрын
I did cut them myself. I used a thin acrylic from amazon. Not sure of the thickness. But don't use clear, if you drop one or set it down it's hard to see when you need it again.
