I agree, it's the best version. A great performance by Alastair Sim. For me the saddest part was when Scrooge found out what Fann wanted him to do & he asks for her forgiveness.

Bloody brilliant. Scrooge is the ultimate story of redemption.

The "encouraging maid" character reminds me of a Victorian Audrey Hepburn.

And the maid asks if the shilling is to keep her mouth shut!! You have to break out laughing at her perfect delivery. I also have that dvd. It was amazing that the toys in the window were actually Victorian and they had to be insured just in case.

Can anyone explain how Mrs Dilber gets into Scrooge's setting room with a tray when we saw him slide bolt across doors to lock them?
@ClassicswithCourtneyАй бұрын
@Joe-j2p3o She knocks on the door, and he opens it for her. I believe that's what happened.

Tumm tumm dummm, goes the music intro. If you see this version you will recognize the music immediately. Sim was perfect as Scrooge. You probably know that he often fostered young people, including George Cole who played the young Scrooge. Cole has been in so many other English movies; how great he got a real chance here. And the future ghost always gave me nightmares!

The future ghost scared my brother when he was little. And I knew Alistair helped out George Cole, but didn't know about the other young people. I love Alistair ❤️

Only version i think Dickens would have liked

It's definitely the best adaptation, in my opinion. I did like the 1935 and 1938 versions, too, but I had to grow to like them. This one grew up with so I'm biased lol, but as an adaptation, I think it's great!
