There is that area marked behind the net now where it protects the goalie. There are two diagonal lines near the corners that mark the area the goalie is immune can play the puck. It was a really really bad change to the game because now the goalie can block access around the back of the net with immunity.

@@EvanCatani Goalie equipment isn't made for body contact but for pucks, especially the helmet is only effective for impacts from directly ahead, so it's a lot more dangerous to check a goalie (the helmet actually falls off quite often when the goalie is run into) plus the goalie usually doesn't expect it. And just bumping into the goalie usually isn't a penalty, only when a player actively stops the goalie from returning to the crease. In this case it doesn't matter, that it was a goalie since he tripped him and that would have been a penalty against any player.

I get where the people who are basically calling it a flop are coming from but I don’t think it was, Igor wants to get back in that crease as fast as possible when he sees a white jersey. He’s a Goalie too… I don’t think flopping is his immediate reaction to a trip considering that’s probably the first time he’s been tripped in his professional career 😂

I'm from Philly so I obviously hate the Rangers. That said, Svechnikov didn't just use his stick to trip Shesterkin, he slew footed him - and it was pretty obvious the hit was intended to injure. Should have been a 5 minute major. Hard clean hits are one thing. This was something else altogether. Calling a blatant cheap shot like this a minor is another reason why the playoffs are getting out of control. The league won't be happy until somebody gets killed out there.
