I love the idea of an FYI channel (no replies needed), and setting expectations for response times otherwise! I loved this video, and loved your session on "360 degrees of a Scrum Master" this week! Awesome content!

I have this exact issue with about half my team in Bangalore and the rest scattered across the US - what a mess! We try to accommodate everyone on the team as much as possible and reach a middle ground, but it's never ideal for everyone, especially the Bangalore folks. This is a very timely video, thanks!

Sounds like a logistics nightmare.

Glad it helped. It won't solve all of the time zone issues, but at least can make it a bit easier to manage.

Hi Daria and guys. I had a crazy experience with this in the past. A project working with people around the whole world and it was really hard to coordinate and get a time slot to talk to all of them. Certain time, for 1 month, I worked at night, because the other team is at South Korea and I, in Brazil, 12 hours time difference. I agree there isn't one solution, just try and see what fits better. I appreciate and tahnk you to share your knowledge and tips with us.

Thank you for sharing. I think that the cost of coordinating wildly distributed teams is higher than the benefit that the company gets from saving money or finding specific talent. Unfortunately, the companies don't see it that way. I now only hire people to my team in the same time zone as me, or maybe with a 1 hour difference. Doesn't matter where they are as long as we can easily reach out to each other during the day. I had an experience of working with someone who was about 10or 11 hours away and I absolutely hated it. Never again, unless I'm forced to do it.
