You’ll love it! I even use a ratchet strap. The chain works, but nothing like tying it down with a ratchet strap

@@dannyjohnsonsgarage I bought it this weekend to put a 350 turbo transmission under a 55 Chevy pick up. Definitely worked like a dream. I’m definitely gonna do the ratchet strap, because I wasn’t too confident in the chain. But other than that, made the job simple and easy. Went from a two man job to an easy one man job. Saved my back from aches and pain for sure. Thanks once again bud.

I will get one for my transmission work. I would replace that chain with a self ratcheting strap, since that would be much more flexible to conform to the transmission contours and instantly adjustable. Great upload!

@@nanobal2365 for the love of all things holy, just rent the 2,000lb capacity one from Sunbelt rentals. A world of difference in quality, and you won't almost kill yourself. The 800lb one broke while dropping the old trans out. My guess is, it is rated with a perfectly centered mass on the jack head. If you know anything about these transmissions and pans (and especially if you have 4x4 and are dropping transfer case with the trans), the weight is anything but perfectly centered. The 800lb jack head articulation mechanism (the knobs you turn to adjust the transmission angle) could not take the strain of the side load and broke shortly after I started lowering the transmission down. Sloppy. The one from Sunbelt is far sturdier, think 3x bigger in terms of material thickness. The knobs are metal too, and have a spot for a 1/2" drive socket to help with leverage. Yeah, it sucks that it isn't mine, but I don't want to spend $2,000 on a jack I won't be making money with, and from the sounds of it, neither do you. Do yourself a favor and don't get this jack. I would also recommend at least one other person. I needed a 2nd person in order to line up the transmission on install with the Sunbelt one. I'm a big and strong guy, 6'4" and 23 years old -- I spent around 10 hours trying to install it by myself, and was able to get it done in about 2 hours with another person.

Someone sold me the red one for 40 bucks on market place, they didn't know what it was, they just knew it was a jack. I almost put the 40 inside their pockets, didn't haggle or ask too many questions, he Even put it in the back of my car. I just rush out of there pretending I was mad while laughing inside. Tomorrow this things is going to put my trany back in wish my luck

I ended up using ratchet straps instead of the chain. It seems to be more safe

I found that some of the front wheel drive cars need the gearbox to be moved through a combination of angles and movements to get them in and out. And even an excellent jack like that don't have all the answers. So I built a completely different and simple type lifter. I just put it on youtube titled Gearbox transaxle lifter.

hey how well does a manual trans fit on the jack? would I be able to get a ratchet strap around the transmission and the jack to keep it stable?

Yes, I have done the manual transmission on this as well. It really helps to get a ratchet strap around it as well to tighten it down since there is generally a ridge down the middle of a manual trans that causes it to rock back-and-forth

Wish I'd bought this instead of the 400 lb transmission jack HF sells. So tricky to use with a Dodge neon transaxle, it's just not wide enough. This would have made things a cinch. Worth the extra $100.

This jack is dangerous 😬 A channel called farmcraft101 has a video titled Dump Truck Repair: Clutch, Transmission and Near disaster. Black Sheep Garage has a good video showing the issues with this jack. If you search harbor freight transmission jack fail in KZbin there's a few videos showing jack failures. The 1 star reviews for the 800 pound jack on Harbor Freight's website confirm the same issues as the videos.

Nice vid. What part number is your jack? They have several different part #'s for this jack and I've read that the drain plug can be rather challenging to reinstall after bleeding the air.

I found the wheels to be annoying on this jack. We had a 4L80E on it and the wheels kept turning sideways even though we were pushing the jack forward. Also that oil plug is a real PITA to reinstall, it's way too big.

When you say you need to lift the truck on one side, you mean front or rear, right?

fastboatster In order to get the transmission out from under the truck with the height of it still being on this trans jack, you need to lift the front (or front on one side) of the truck to get it to clear

This one as been great with the larger platform and ability to pivot the platform side to side/ up and down. I did an auto transmission on my own with it. it has also been good on standard transmission, and the differential on the cobra

I dropped the transmission alone in my F150 video with the help of some ratchet straps, but it is definitely something that is better with two people due to the size and weight and multiple hands needed for the job kzbin.info/www/bejne/g33Nmn5uoJaMY5Y

It’s dangerous. That transmission falls on you and you’re alone with no help, you’re in quite the debacle. Always have someone around if at all possible.

You really need a person on each side, and ideally one operating the handle of the jack/helping push forward or backwards. Transmissions are super unbalanced and hard to get leverage on without being underneath of it, which could be a death sentence
