When my garage is opening I have what I feel like is a lot of slack. It tightens some when completely open. When closing it tightens up.

I’d also check for the snap ring to see if it’s in place. See this updated version kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXnCg3uijs5jqNEsi=mnUyXvDl5PX6nMMy

You don't have any tension on your spring. Put a screwdriver in the washer slot and hold it from moving then turn the nut a quarter turn to a half turn loosening to release the spring. Its fully compressed now which is not good for the system. Spring should be 1inch and 1/4

You need to loosen that silver washer so that the spring will have the right tension 0:47!! Otherwise your opener will have to work harder and break down faster!
Great info! I like how calm you are. Very nice! Thanks

I saw you trying to put as much of it as possible in the video without being too obvious!!! What a beauty!!! And you all call yourselves "manly men" and didn't even mention that YELLOW SNAKE!?!?!? We are a gaming related community helping provide safe online gameplay to all, especially our children. Sometimes, our garage door belts get loose too and our wives make us watch videos on how to fix them. Thank you for such a video. Now that we can park our car in the garage, would you like to play video games?

Actually I know what happened here whoever install that opener didn’t really put too much detail into their work so what happened was they did not pop the silver washer on the spring to keep the tension on the belt and then your emergency release rope is tied pretty weird so I recommend re-doing that so it looks a bit more better

Yes, this is the thing. I didn't do this last time, and it lasted a few years, but eventually it stripped the threads right off the bolt. The parts went flying everywhere through my garage with the belt hanging down unattached. Chamberlain had pretty cheap replacement parts, but it took a week for them to get here.

What I was thinking. The spring was still too close together. I just replaced mine and remembered to do that important step. It comes with a bright orange sticker with the length before and after

Who ever installed the opener, didn’t snap the spring on the trolley to help keep tension on the belt. If you look up the owners manual for your opener(liftmaster 8355) you will see how this is done

Your nut on the end of the spring is supposed to be touching the black end of the mechanism. Check your manual. The spring should be fully engaged.

If you have a squeak on these Chamberlain/Liftmaster belt drive units, check the sprocket cover on the head unit. Remove the cover (two ¼" nuts), clean the inside of the cover thoroughly, spray lithium grease where the cover meets the sprocket (avoiding grease on the belt), and reassemble.
