He grew up impoverished in Compton and was caught up in gang violence as many of his close friends were Pirus. In an effort to survive and to be accepted by his peers he sometimes participated in things like robberies, violence and substance abuse. He is still carrying the guilt today. He faced discrimination and racism. He struggled with feelings of shame and self loathing after becoming famous, as many of the people he knew back home were still suffering greatly.
