The SCSI2SD is a solid state alternative to mechanical SCSI hard drives. Focused mainly around the use in vintage Macintosh computers, this benchmarking video finds out just how fast the SCSI2SD really is!

Absolute legend, thank you, Bruce! Fellow Australian 7600/200 + G3 upgrade owner here, and you've just convinced me to spend the extra on a V6 to replace an ageing drive. Greatly appreciate the effort you've gone to and the way you presented the data.

Thank you for another really interesting and thorough video. Your videos are always excellent and have taught me a huge amount! For me, the SCSI2SD is about convenience. Here in the UK, I've picked up some newer 10k 2.5" SCSI drives, terminators and adaptors that work well in all Macs for less than a third of the price of the cheapest SCSI2SD. And the spinning drive outperforms my SCSI2SD 5.1 on nearly everything that matters (boot times, read/write speeds etc). Of course, the spinning disk adds more strain on the power supply, adds heat and a little noise as well. The SCSI2SD is an absolutely great product, but at the price it's not the only solution. If you have a lot of Macs, it gets very expensive, very quickly. I love mine as an external device for moving files between systems.

Out of curiosity, what were those newer 10k scsi drives? It's a bit tricky figuring out which ones will work on the 8-bit Narrow SCSI in 68k Macs.

Hi, you stated that on the SCSI2SD v6, the first drive is only mounted on the Mac. Which revision of V6 do you have and do you know if they changed this on the 2021 revision and all drives can now mount from the one SD card? Thank you.

For comparison, some v6 benchmarks on SGI workstations forums.sgi.sh/index.php?threads/scsi2sd-v6-performance-report.110/post-1020 TL;DR -- Even when matched up against a top-tier 15K RPM disk the SCSI2SD is faster. Also substantial performance improvement with Sandisk Xtreme cards in the tested systems.

Hello, I bought SCSI2SD v6. I have ATARI TT and FALCONA030. Is it possible to supply power to SCSI2SD via the output of ATARI floppy disk power supply with SCSI2SD floppy disk input. Currently, I can only connect via usb computer - SCSI2SD v6 2020c, I have two more power adapters to charge the phone also with a 5v usb output. one has 460mA and the other 1.2A. The SCSI2 instruction states that the power supply cannot exceed 500mA and 5V, especially the problem with the 500mA current - no one on YTub addresses this problem, hmm, how to connect SCSI2 from a loved ATARI floppy drive or from a converted USB output from with 2A and 5v current? Can I ask for help with the solution NOT to burn SCSI2SD chips.

And now when SCSI2SD is no longer available, it would be great to compare it to ZuluSCSI and BlueSCSI. Cheers, S

Hi, Power Macintosh 8600/250 with SCSI2SD V5.2 is there any way to format the SD card over 4GB to use with Mac OS 9.x? alternative to HD_SC_Setup_7.3.5_Patched
@BranchusCreations
@BranchusCreations 2 жыл бұрын
I would recommend using the OS9 Drive Setup rather than the old HD SC setup. You should be able to format bootable partitions all the way up to 128GB.

@@BranchusCreationsThank you for the reply Bruce, I get "Cannot initialise disk on unsupported drive" hence the reason I’m using the patched older version. And on windows 10 when I save a config using Scsi2sd utility the next time I plug the adapter in everything is back to default.

Hi you can use the FWB Disk Tools to format nearly every kind of drive . I use Version 3.0 but 2.5 works although fine. It was „THE“ disk tool in the 90s like a Swiss Army knife 🥳

You didn't show the write speeds of the later SCSI2SD models, only when first showing the benchmark. The write speeds are what really interest me - could you either just post screenshots of the whole results for each model, or at least list the write speeds?

Sure, I'd be happy to. Do you have MacBench v4.0? I can just send you all the result files if you like.

@@BranchusCreations I do indeed, that would be good! Email my KZbin user name (with no space/period/break) @ Apple's-consumer-email-cloud-service. Or send to me on MacRumors Forums (same user name/icon.) I'll even compare to a few more vintage hard drives and post the results. (I only have a SCSI2SD V5.1, and was specifically wondering if the V6 is fast enough write speed for what I want to use it for.)
