A very wet morning in the Adelaide Hills led to the failure of CSR007 on SCT logistics Freight 6MP9. The train which runs from Melbourne to Perth was less than one kilometre from the top of the steep Mount Lofty 1 in 46 gradient when the train stopped due to a lack of power after the CSR failed.
As seen in this video after several hours Pacific National locomotives NR19 & AN11 run light engines from Ambleside (Where another NR and their train remained) to Aldgate with the plan of pushing MP9 to Mt Lofty. Pacific National Freight 7MP7 with Triple NRs also features within this video passing the rescue locomotives at Mount Lofty via the loop.

In the first scene there is a cabinet (aluminium pipe with a dome lid) on the right hand side of the track adjacent to the 2 signs. In Wellington NZ there were 3 of these APO (Australian Post Office) cabinets, now long gone. My question is, did the Australian Railways use these cabinets or is it a former APO now Telstra cabinet? If it is Telstra it is rather close to the track. Anthony

So, did the bank engine's make to the train or did they MISS the train? You filmed everything else on rails. Maybe they might catch the train instead.

Great video. Just a quick question, what is the last truck at 7.55?
@railtrolley
@railtrolley 4 жыл бұрын
The last wagon is part of the 4 in front of it. Known as a 5 pack wagon set. They are 5 container skeleton frame wagons semi permanently coupled together. They have only one bogie (truck) that acts as the joint between 2 wagons. Only the first and last of the 5 wagons have couplers, and bogies in the normal place behind the coupler at the wagon end. The idea is a light, efficient wagon set, with a greater payload, less drag from less wheel sets, and less coupler slack. Downside being if there is a fault with one wagon, the whole set has to be taken out of service. The load on the last wagon is an open top type 40' container. It only has ends, and no sides or top. They are designed for side loading something, which will not fit into a standard shipping container. The base is built to the same dimensions as a regular shipping container, so it can be loaded onto the wagon by standard equipment, and uses the same container locks to secure it to the wagon.

Love it ! I grow up on that Line , Blackwood to Eden Hills then Belair . In Belair I'd lay in bed at night (age12) and listen faintly as they wound up past Lynton .... About half an hour later the windows would be shaking as the same train marched up the (apparently) steepest and tightest corner on the Adel/Melb line , just below Pinera station where we lived .

They are in a constant state of failure. Literally daily. It runs much deeper than where the loco was manufactured.

@eshay disdat I care when it's my private property, so I will decide what I want or don't want. I will come over to your house and paint my "art" on it, whether you like it or not and see how you feel about it.
@johnstudd4245
@johnstudd4245 3 жыл бұрын
@eshay disdat No, there is absolutely no difference. That is private property which is being vandalized, that is a crime which is punishable. Yes I do have ownership in them, I am a stock holder in a railroad, therefore part owner of the company. My company spends money to paint their rail cars with what they want to be on them. Not what some vandal thinks what should be there. It costs me money when my company has to spend time and money to repair the damage. Beside the cosmetic issue there are practical and safety issues also. Many times they paint over Loading , handling and hazardous material data which is vital to the correct and safe operation of the rail transport and the communities that they run though.
