Scuba diving in search of Chimaeras: Rabbitfish/Ratfish (Norway) / Dyk med havsmus i Norge

Chimaeras are cartilaginous (boneless) fish and relatives of sharks and rays, but having their own branch of the evolutionary tree. The only chimaera species present in northern Europe is Chimaera Monstrosa (Ratfish/Rabbitfish) and it usually lives in the deep at 50-1,000 m depth (most abundant around 300-500 m). In some Norwegian fjords it can be seen at diveable depths, primarily at night.
We visited Hindrum Fjordsenter in Trondheim Fjord, Norway, to try our luck to find chimaeras on nightly scuba dives from the shore (March, 2023). Diving at tidal slack is recommended.
Also seen in the video: Cod, Norway king crab (also called Northern stone crab), atlantic hagfish and atlantic halibut.
(Sv) Chimaeras är broskfiskar som är släkt med hajar och rockor men som har en egen gren på det fylogenetiska trädet. Det finns endast en sorts Chimaera i våra nordliga vatten och det är havsmusen Chimaera Monstrosa. Den lever på 50-1000 m djup och befinner sig oftast på djup större än 300 m. I vissa norska fjordar kan man träffa på den på dykbart djup nattetid.
Vi besökte Hindrum Fjordsenter i Trondheimsfjorden, Norge, i förhoppningen att få möta havsmus på nattdyk från stranden (mars, 2023). Dykning när strömmarna är som lägst, när tidvattnet vänder, rekommenderas.

Breathtaking scenery 👌🏻👌🏻✌🏻 I am a certified scuba diver from Liverpool in the UK. My Ancestors are from Scandinavia in Viborg Denmark and Gothenburg Sweden. I am planning on coming over to Scandinavia in the near future and wanting to dive in Denmark and Sweden and Norway. I was born and bred in the UK but I have always had a special place in my heart for Scandanavia because it is in my blood ✌🏻👌🏻. Great video ✌🏻 the visibility in the water is stunning I cannot wait to dive over there. I have just subscribed and will watch all your videos. I am trying to watch every video possible of diving in Scandanavia 👌🏻✌🏻
