Aaaah, the good old Nautilus Explorer. Have been on the ship in October 2019. Was the best dive trip of my life so far. Will definetly go back to Guadalupe Island in 2021 or latest 2022. The sharks are so incredible beautiful, the visibility is a dream and the operator and the staff were friendly as heck. Only one thing you should know before going there: the tour operators are not allowed to bait the sharks in the submersible cages anymore - due to safety. Only at the surface.

Humbling experience, I would imagine. I’d love to do it. Never been in a cage though, and never dived with sharks in the first place. I’ve seen other videos showing divers with hammerheads, tigers, etc. but without a cage. The great white is another story entirely then, I’d imagine.

A cage is not needed for diving with Great Whites. Nor is baiting. That's asking for trouble. Get in the water with these magnificent predatory fish at noon when they are just chilling out and they are calm and curious. Avoid dawn and dusk when they are ambush hunting. You will definitely be lunch.

What interests me is their battle scars, not the goofs who hop in a cage and feed these fish like they are pets. It's pretty difficult to study how sharks actually act and behave when you are interfering with their natural behavior, feeding them is interfering with them.

I don't think they do it out of "look at me, I was brave enough to dive with the shark" I think the attraction is more out of just being in the presence of a creature as magnificent as a great white. Looking at 3:28 the shark is bleeding from a little hole like wound in his upper body, strange did they try to tag them or did he hurt himself touching the cage?

Stefan M it's more likely the wound is unrelated to the dive. Males compete with other males to mate. And when they do mate they bite on to each other to "hold on". It was most likely it's own fault rather than something to do with the dive.
