What is the SCUBATLON?
Over the past few decades, we have witnessed how the underwater immersion became favorites in the mass enthusiasm. The development of the tourism industry made available to visit the most remote and exotic corners of the planet.
Over the last half century, scuba diving-which was, in its earlier days, reserved for the elite, brave and courageous-has become a mainstream sport for the masses. On the one hand, this is very good. Millions of people get to see with their own eyes how diverse and exciting the underwater world is. On the other hand, diving can cause serious damage to coral reefs, which are rich in biodiversity, but extremely vulnerable to human impact. In a response to the dive community’s demand for more protection of the reefs and the underwater realm, a group of divers came up with the idea of SCUBATLON -a tournament in traditional recreational diving with a conservation bent.
The idea of SCUBATLON was not to invent artificial tournaments, but to introduce elements of competition into traditional recreational diving. This is actually how the name for the event was created; it consists of two words: scuba, and a variant of the Ancient Greek word athlon, áthion or atlon, meaning competition or contest. The most euphonic combination of these terms was SCUBATLON.
Buoyancy is key. There are a lot of courses available at dive centers to help improve one’s buoyancy. The problem was that they were a trifle boring. The course results were not immediately visible-maybe that was why they were not very popular. With Scubatlon, the situation was precisely the opposite. Not only do you acquire buoyancy skills while preparing for the contests, but you are also improving them at the same time.
SCUBATLON Association, as a matter of principle, does not conduct beginner level dive training, as this process is already well organized. Our training is for certified divers. We accept the certificates of any generally accepted training system, beginning with Open Water Diver or One-Star Diver level, or other similar certifications.
The basis of the SCUBATLON SCUBA MASTER course is a diver’s ability to perfectly manage themselves, thereby ensuring its own security, and environmental sustainability. Using multi-level system of underwater obstacles, the course will teach everyone to masterfully control body and breathing in any position and use different styles of stroke fins.
The next course is divided into two stages: theoretical and practical. The first stage - SCUBA NATURALIST, tells about the underwater ecosystem, marine life and their habits, the second - SCUBA RANGER, provides practical study of underwater flora and fauna. The acquired knowledge will lead you to a meaningful dialogue with the world and knowledge of the basic laws on which it lives and develops
Over time, the SCUBA NATURALIST course was transformed into an independent project Coral Truck Science Center
SCUBA RANGER was developed as a volunteer coral recovery project.
The important point is the fact that the passing SCUBATLONs training program, even novice divers, who usually represent a major problem for others, can feel themselves fully valid members of any professionally and more experienced dive team. The program SCUBATLON will also help «reshape» divers, who do not dive for a long period in natural waters.
Although SCUBATLON, first of all, an ecological project - sports and competitions are an important part of his and help unite divers around the instructor or club. Association SCUBATLON holds competitions among divers on buoyancy control - SCUBATLON Open Cup. Competitions are held on the slopes of different difficulty levels, consisting of obstacles system. Participation in association may be the hallmark of every diver or instructor. Passage the route of SCUBATLON allows quite objectively judge the level of divers’ training and professionalism. Regardless of the number of specializations and experience - it is also a good way to come together to improve diving skills.
