Same man! Ive been struggling with (what i assume to be) box modelling for like 2 months now and haven't been able to get myself anything that looks like an actual head! This hands on method seems a *lot* more my style ( i was going to say "simpler" but. Its not more simple it just caters to the way my brain functions a bit more!)
@SirDaz
@SirDaz 4 жыл бұрын
Trouble is, if you want to animate or use it in Unity etc... then you'll need to retopologise the sculpted model....which is much closer to the good old box modelling.
@vodeaku
@vodeaku 3 жыл бұрын
@@SirDaz But ypu can actually apply the multires modifier to get the same look of the sculpt, and the topology wouldn't change at all. It's actually great to sculpt if you want more detail for your model. But I may be wrong as I haven't fully used blender yet. Too busy studying for school ;-;
@SirDaz
@SirDaz 3 жыл бұрын
@@vodeaku i think the priblems come when you try and rig the multires model from the sculpt... it may look nice, but then won't animate well....

for anyone else that spent ages wondering why his eyebrows came out so smooth when mine came out like massive bits of lego change your brush strength to the same as his 0.889 and details on dyno topology to 6, this gave me way better detail than I had by default which was doing my nut in trying to figure out where I had gone wrong

What advice can you give in regards to creating characters that match the same universe? I have a certain style when I draw and I tried to create a male and female counterpart. Both look great and their color schemes work very well. But something felt off about them being drawn side by side. I thought they'd look better if they were sculpted but now they don't even look like they belong to the same universe. But they match their concept art I drew out perfectly. I didn't do anything different from the other while sculpting. I'm proud of how they turned out individually but together in a mock scene they don't look right. I've tried drawing and sculpting other characters, giving my current models different hairs, changing their overall shapes but they still look like they don't belong to the same world. Edited because of spelling errors

Hi! I want to congratulate you for your tutorial about basic sculpt in Blender. I saw it last night and It helped me very much to know better the brushes and other tools. However, I need to tell you that I had many problems trying to sculpt following tutorials about sculpt, including yours. Why? Well, I really liked it very much your style to teach. I guess my philosophy about teaching is very similar to yours. Actually, my problem is related to how, when and (specially) where use every brush. I am novice in sculpt and I suppose that the root of my problem is my short experience and the (apparently) obvious solution to that, is more practice. But I am frustrated triyng to make something similar to the work of the youtuber of every video that I saw. In modeling I was a success around 98% (or maybe more) doing something similar to the final work of almost every youtubers. But in sculpt, I have not been able to make something slightly similar to what youtubers do. I made the ear that you did, but I only make the general shape. The details of my work are not very harmonious: I can not make continuous lines yet (and also I had other worst problems that I don't remember in this moment). Would you let me give you a idea for new tutorials? I will assume yes: What do you think about making of basic and (maybe) short tutorials about every brush? Maybe you could supply the mesh what you use to make the same changes. The frequent changes from a brush to another, in every long video of KZbin, are very difficult to follow. I hope you will accept my proposal. Your efforts to be understood make me think that you are the right person to face something like this. Thanks so much for the said video! Best regards!

All the work and effort you put into these videos is really and truly appreciated. I can't wait for more of your content in the future :D One quick question... How did you get the windows on the left side of your screen that shows you the entire sculpture as a whole? I am relatively new to the interface so I have no idea. i don't understand what you mean by weird squares are the only thing that moves, did you skip the previous video of this series?

I think I found a fix to your problem. Go into edit mode and press w. Instead of subdivide smooth like in the previous video, just press subdivide

I cant get it clean as your head but i think i made progress espeacially for only doing this since 3 days and on my opnion its easier to learn sculpturing in blender than drawing digital for me

@yanSculpt great work, I'm so total beginner and I wanna learn more. But which is preferable to use, "a mouse or a tablet". And the settings. Thanks.

Tablet, as for settings i show how to set up Blender in the first part of this tutorial. As for the tablet's driver settings, that is up to your preference and type of tablet you have.

I just started watching these tutorials, I got a question, how did you setup your workspace? like that camera view for front and 1/4 angle on the side? can you like teach/show us how to set the workspace like this? I'm having a hard time sculpting in the default workspace of blender, would really appreciate if you help us. AND BY THE WAY! GREAT JOB AT EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO

Thanks. I split the screen, simple as that. If you are new to Blender and don't know how to do that, simplest way would be to google splitting blender screen, a lot simpler than if i tried explaining it here :)

So, when you add more shapes like the hair and eyes, how do you make it so you can use the stretchy/dragging tool/move things around on the main part or hair part without it moving the other stuff too?? I had this issue for a while and I eventually cried and gave up so I’m here again like a year later asking for help because the internet did not help :,) Also with how you like merge the 2 shapes but so they don’t act weird when interacting with each other

I haven't made it that far in the video, but my guess is to add it as a seperate object. As for the second question, I don't think I understand.

i learned a lot from this video but you recommend us to make our own stylised character instead of repeating what you do, i could do that but i gotta learn anatomy or gesture. what do you think i should learn before i start? also do you have any resources to recommend?
@yansculpts
@yansculpts 6 жыл бұрын
I like to learn gesture and anatomy at the same time, i actually still do, there is no end to how much you can learn. But if you must start with one,. i would go for gesture first. As for resources nothing that pops to mind, maybe figure drawing book by Micheal Hampton can be a good one for you.

Hey Yans, The video is amazing and easy to follow. However I noticed that you get ahead of yourself a lot, I suggest you plan out how you want to proceed with the videos on a sheet of paper (document, because you know, we're techy). That way it'll all be fluid. E.g. Sphere -> skull -> mouth -> nose, etc. that way you don't jump around ( even though I know as an artist we tend to do that. ) Just a suggestion :) Either way, awesome video!

I wasn't actually planning on watching this entire thing from start to finish, but I stayed because I wanted to know at what point you realized you were sculpting Bruce Campbell. :-P (And since I haven't seen the real-time version of the time-lapse part, I'm still left with the same question - does Yan ever discover he's been sculpting Ash from Evil Dead for the last three hours? I guess I may never know. :-P )
