@@Nezumi-- Regarding Hokusai with Debussy, you may want to read more on Debussy and his fascination with East Asian and South East Asian music. Stylistically La Mer may sound like an odd pairing to Hokusai, but I also understand where Eddy coming from when he chose La Mer (Debussy) for Hokusai.

I’d love to hear you do this the other way around- match an artwork to a piece of music. I was listening to Poulenc sonata for piano and clarinet a few weeks ago, and wondering what art was being made at that time, what he would have been looking at.
@SculptyWorks4 жыл бұрын
Poulenc was from the early 1900's, so besides the classics, he'd certainly have been familiar with the works of Monet and Picasso. I think his works are very melodic, a bit too refined for the more daring art styles coming out at that time, but also rather grounded in reality, so maybe something from John Sloan would go well with Poulenc's music in general. 😊
@susanbryant65164 жыл бұрын
Just did some googlating, and was surprised to find the pice I was thinking of was written in 1962, at the end of his life... and the John Sloans look a little too old fashioned for it... but the Poulenc doesn’t sound very 1960’s to me... I need to do some research on this!

I actually agree with TwoSet that La Mer fits. Specifically that part. It definitely has the nuances of waves crashing. Plus, Debussy actually used that artwork as the cover for La Mer, which is why they went for it so quickly. I think Ride of the Valkyries has so much symbolism already attached to it. It definitely doesn't give me stormy vibes. More like an army charging.

interesting. whenever i see starry night i feel overwhlemed. i mean the whirls in the center of the sky, radiating as if they are interacting to make a storm of stars, and the whole sky filled in the canvas, the moon shine aloft all above the world, while the tiny little houses at the very bottom... i feel it is a very majestic piece, dynamic and powerful with harmony . the stars of the universe were telling giant secrets to the artist when he was painting it. he saw the great stars, and suddenly the things of the world seemed so small compared to this great stars of universe...

Someone could try this idea: When trying to convert painting genre to a music genre or a music genre to a painting genre something like this could be made. When converting painting genre to music one: 1-Get a painting genre and list down all its characteristics. 2-Convert those characteristics to musical/sound ones using music thoery skills, painting theory skills and logic skills. 3-Create some music with ALL the characteristics from step 2. Some music listeners forum tried that idea with colorfield painting genre and came with the genre tonefield In the end the sub-genre works basically like this: 1-Song is mono, if its some format (like cd) that don't support true mono, both channels have the exact same thing. 2- The song start with a silent part with 1 second (or more) or with a tonewith 1 second or more (tone must have same waveform, frequency and amplitude during its entire length) 3-Song ends here OR continue with with a new silent part with 1 second (or more) or with new a tone a tone with 1 second or more (tone must have same waveform, frequency and amplitude during its entire length) 4-Go back to 3. The problem is that people at the forum were not musicians so most of the songs of that genre sucks. This label catalog the stuff they made: wavelength2.bandcamp.com/

For the Klimt, the Adaggietto from Mahler’s 5th Symphony. For the Debussy, yes to La mer, but the 3rd movement (Dialogue between the wind and the sea). Starry Night is more expressionistic than impressionistic to me. Maybe even philosophical - it expresses a sense of wonder and awe; it’s a map of spirit energy. It’s not what he sees; it’s about how it makes him feel to see the night sky above the place where he stands. It’s a very turbulent image but the feeling is simple awe. I’d pick Arvo Pärt’s Spiegle I’m Spiegle. The Creation of Adam is full of visual energy but it’s also a frozen moment, a tableau. And it’s not the moment of connection; it’s either before the touch or after it. It’s clear to me that it’s before. Adam is languorous; The father is the agent in the scene. It’s very cinematic in our modern concept of depicted drama. Not-quite-touching - between passive and active. Maybe the subtext if not the outright intent is to ask questions about faith and power. The music should reflect that tension. It’s not in a museum; it’s in a chapel, so the music should also evoke that setting. I would pick Monteverdi - the tenor duet from Vespro della Beata Vergine.

I clicked on this video just to see the silence part, and then he give his own opinion to pair the silence with the noisy artwork. it's interesting. For me, id put just a windchime sfx for that painting. The little chimes some house hang outside them. Because the colour reminds me of an autumn forest. Like dead leaves and thorny sticks.

And you have the Conductor Painting Mona Lisa with their crazy artistic baton.

Mona Lisa hit you with that … Dum Dum Dum Dum I appreciated your knowledge of art and music, and the editing of the Great Wave with Ride of the Valkyries was beautiful. I’d love to see that painting paired with a Japanese composer’s traditional or Western classical music. Any thoughts of a Japanese-inspired music? I don’t have a suggestion, but I’ll be looking for one now.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar at all with traditional Japanese composers.

Having scrolled down through the comments, I appreciate the time and trouble you took not only to read them all... well I assume all. I didn't get THAT far... but to respond to them as well. Some very knowledgeable musicians out there. Homework for me would be to listen to their choices and see if I agreed! My classical music education continues apace...

I try to read ALL comments, yes. And most of the time respond or at least acknowledge them with a little ❤. KZbin sometimes forgets to tell me I have a new comment, so some might unfortunately get overlooked, but for the most part I try to stay on top of them. It's part of the whole creator experience, in my opinion! ...for better or for worse. 😉

@@SculptyWorks I'm sure TwoSet would do so more often but what with their email, Twitter, Insta, Snapchat, FB, Subreddit and Twitter accounts in addition to the thousands of comments on their channel they can't. Not even their 40hrs a day is enough!

It is understandably impractical to read/answer/acknowledge ALL comments when you have several thousands of them coming in, so I don't blame them. It's one problem of growing big, if you like interacting with your audience.

for the jackson pollock, theres this weird piece called the widmann viola concerto. it sounds like a viola joke because it has a lot of pizzicato and viola-being-used-as-a-percussion-instrument. it has the same weird and not-totally-art thing going on.

@@miroslava9203 Thank you! I try to acknowledge every comment even if just with a ❤. KZbin can make that difficult because it likes to forget to tell me I got comments sometimes, but I'm doing what I can. 😊

What artwork would do justice to Erik Satie's Gymnopédie No.1? The Adagios (Barber, Albinoni, etc.)? How about Danse Macabre, by Saint Saens? Clair de Lune by Debussy?
@SculptyWorks2 жыл бұрын
That could be the subject for a whole new video! 😉

I'd say Satie's Gymnopédie No.1 for Les amants (Ⅰ-Ⅳ) by René Magritte
