So I attended the regional championships in Baltimore where kaitou was doing signatures. It was a mess, I’m sure you’ve heard a bit about it. Basically, no one who competed were able to get signatures because we played from 9 am-9 pm Saturday and on Sunday the clowns lined up at 1:30 am. We had no chance. Anyway, the event organizers are separate from Pokémon itself. The only representation from Pokémon were the judges, who by the way, are fantastic and kind and I can’t speak highly enough about them (they’re so passionate) anyway, they noticed the issue with the signatures. They mentioned that it was strange that over 500 people bought spectator passes to a regionals championship, because it was unusually high. ANYWAYS, they encouraged us to contact the Pokémon company about the situation and myself and other friends who play the TCG did and we got the reply that they are looking into it and the event organizers. Hopefully, stuff like that won’t happen as much.

Unfortunately, the Pokemon sig collecting community is just now beginning to dabble in trends that have plagued sports card collecting for decades. I've stopped counting the number of instances of collectibles that I've seen online (and been told about in-person) that have been deliberately altered to remove personalization. There's no regulation for it and no real way to stop it, particularly because collectors gravitate to altering the high-end signatures (i.e. removing the personalization off a Gretzky sig, for instance). I have an item that I bought last year that was signed by Pink Floyd's frontman, David Gilmour, and his wife, Polly Samson, who wrote a book (unrelated to Floyd) and offered dual-signed tie-in CDs with music inspired by the book for offer. I was told after the fact that collectors were buying up 8-10 copies each and using dry erase/rubbing alcohol to remove Samson's name from the CD booklet (where both of them were signed) in order to make it look like only Gilmour signed the CD, with the belief that this would make the booklet "more valuable". This is despite the fact that Samson wrote music for the last four Pink Floyd albums and won awards for her work. (And yes, PSA was well-aware of the scam, as they authenticated several of these altered booklets.) So long as collectors exist, there will always be a subversive element that will always utilize every angle to maximize their value, regardless of the ethics or legality of the matter. The best we can do as a community is call it out when we see it and shame those dabbling in it.

I will ever understand why people share their personal life, especially online and especially when it’s controversial. Literally this guy wiping signatures could have done it, made money AND avoided all this scrutiny by just keeping things to yourself. Something so easy to do. Not everything needs to be broadcasted. If I ever did this, I sure as hell wouldn’t post it on social media and make videos about it. Live your life the way you want, according to your values, be kind to others and keep it to yourself. Happiness.

I actually saw this on instagram a couple of weeks ago where an account I follow pokellector_cards questions whether or not the sketch had smudged? And ultimatepokeflute has responded that that sadly it did. So pokellector asked if it was from him removing the personal tag or when he signed it? Ultimatepokeflute said it was when it was placed in the sleeve so it was a no brainer to remove the personalisation Tbh. Pokellector replies with ahhhh I see. He has limited comments on this post so you can no longer comment and a comment I made 2 weeks ago was removed not before he told me I was mistaken for thinking he would remove a name to make money off a card. Seriously in the last few weeks alone some card collectors, KZbinrs and ebay sellers have seriously started to ruin the Pokémon community with stealing, lying and taking advantage of the community. 😞

@@Candyman2020_ it's the connection being made. Military, scammer. And as someone who served, I would assume you would take offense to people making the CAF look bad, not rattle, the people he's talking about. The fact that they scammed should be the point of contention, their career has zero bearings on it. Would it make sense to mention if a carpenter scammed someone? That's all I'm getting at here.

@@thecasualcanuck4590 nobody implied everyone who is ex military is also a scammer. Just seems like a higher % of ex military end up being scammers. But it’s a slippery slope and unless someone is tallying every time someone is exposed as a scammer the conversation will lead nowhere.

You gained a subscriber with this one. I completely agree with you!! How broke and unsuccessful are you that you feel like this is the best way to make extra money. Wayyy too much time and effort for an extra $2000-3000. Then for the card to say “to trainer, ash, collector or some other stupid nonsense”. The real collectors know when the Arita auto has been altered by the cert numbers! Newer cert with plain Arita sig and no personalization or date is huge red flag.

As an avid star wars fan you would run into these guys and their "kids" at Star Wars Weekends all the time. It was the family of 4-5 that all had the same figure getting a non personalized autograph on card. Like why do you need so many? If the star was signing Personalized the dad would gripe. They would hound poor Mark Hamil if they saw him to sign their stuff, he eventually would sign but personalized it. Crazy world

I agree that PSA shouldn't have allowed altered cards pass through their authentication process. This video does well at highlighting that, but while controversial I dont think Brandon really did anything wrong to bring his family to muel signatures besides exploit a situation for personal gain. Events need to be handled better. Might I suggest a lottery? Seems to me to be the most fair for everyone attending.
@quinlancollectibles2582 жыл бұрын
As an actual Komiya collector its sad that a deceptive individual did this. Every card has a story and these cards are all tarnished by their greed and alterations and are now potentially worth less than an unsigned card. In the short term they make some sales off some people who probably don't know any better and they'll gloat it over all the "haters" while doing mental gymnastics jumping through a dozen hoops to try to justify their behavior.
@bskitt872 жыл бұрын
I’m a Komiya collector too and what I wouldn’t give to have one personalised signed card, let alone be on ‘speaking terms’ and have a unique sketch. It’s appalling that someone has the ability to do this to any illustrator, let alone one with a health condition.

You ask, “Why do ex-military people often end up being the scum of collectibles, scammer whammers, 69… Please let me know..” Then follow it up with the statement, “It’s more than a trend at this point.” While your question doesn’t inherently generalize service members, the statement does. There is scum everywhere you look.. in every population, group, or community… The military is no different. Most service members serve with selfless purpose, dignity, and respect for the values our country was founded on. The segment regarding ex-military could have easily been, “I’m not sure if opossum knew this guy was ex-military… but that’s interesting.” Instead of generalizing a perceived behavior of an entire community based on your mere opinion. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
@nobodycares02572 жыл бұрын
Lord Iron, plainly that’s because Rattle is just a Canadian guy named Mike who loves making negative content about other people because his toxic fan base loves it ,and that’s pretty much where he’s getting the most attention in his life. Little does he know(or maybe he does), his idiot subscribers were going to Pokeflutes Instagram bombarding his comment section with the most disgusting and vile comments, such as this,”…your children are pieces of shit but they can’t be shittier than their shitty father…”So he had to delete comments, because if I were him I wouldn’t want my family seeing any of those comments. All this over cardboard. Rattle,you obviously aren’t responsible for other peoples actions,but do know that this is the type of stuff you lead people to do. That is on your hands, and your responsibility to tell your audience to chill tf out. No matter what points you make,once you drag children in this,you become wrong no matter what the reason. It’s despicable . But you probably won’t care because this is what you do,you don’t care about anybody and most importantly children.
