Thanks For Watching!! "Our Grass-Fed Syntropic System was due for a feeding. Nomadic Farmer and Scything Expert, Jim Kovaleski stopped by our farm to help mow the rows. Big thanks to Jim for helping knock out that task! All of that bio-mass is directly feeding the soil and system ultimately. Stay tuned for our Spring Syntropic System Update! " By the way, we filmed a Course with Jim Kovaleski a few years back. It's called "The Grass-Fed Market Garden" ; this course is packed with valuable information + content and is affordable! That is great Pete! My system here in Spain is 3 months old. All growing great, except some Tropical trees that I introduced to test. We had the coldest winter in a century, so some might not make it. I will replace some of them in Spring. Also I placed more than 30.000 tree seeds in seed cocktails, I'm eager to see results, but I guess I might need to wait until Spring also. I have total 555 trees! And I might need to replace no more than 20, so, for an extraordinarily cold winter, not bad (I planted everything on October 13)

Could you use a slice seeder for the grass planting instead of tilling? It would be a little less invasive to the established grass
@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL
@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL 3 жыл бұрын
The problem is the established grass will out compete the grass seed. The main reason for shallow tilling is to slow down the bahia so the seed can establish.

Wow, so looking forward to the one year update. I think I probably had this question in my mind before, but if you expanded that into the other open areas, with a wider space between rows instead of scything couldn't the chickens mob graze the grass? Or they won't do that function? This is a pretty cool system. Would you recommend doing these on contour on a swale as a compliment in the food forest, or is this a different scenario playing out here entirely?
@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL
@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Carmelo!! That could definitely work to keep the grass short and add nitrogen, but I would loose the material gained through using the scythe. This system was designed in Brazil and they found it worked best planted north to south for maximum grass lighting. They even plant hill sides north to south in Brazil. More to come in spring!
@TheVigilantStewards
@TheVigilantStewards 3 жыл бұрын
Pete Kanaris GreenDreamsFL you’re right it would boost nitrogen and soil cycling but wouldn’t get the biomass ... I wonder if there is a rotation between the two, or having slightly wider lanes to get both solution that would elevate the system? Or do both of those present new problems other than space
@TheVigilantStewards
@TheVigilantStewards 3 жыл бұрын
Pete Kanaris GreenDreamsFL that might be a good thing to talk about in the video , why grass instead of just a solid canopy all the way through that feeds itself instead of grass I know permaculture teaching shows that with grazing animals you can achieve the highest level of efficiency or performance or natural balance, but it’s unclear to me if they’re counting the animal as food as a benefit or if it’s solely from an ecological point of view. Seems like it is promoted that even for plant based people have those animals doing their job to boost carbon and nutrient sinking. That highest level/tier is not something people seem to focus on too much, but achieving that super powerful and dense energy level in the soil is fascinating to me to where it starts to go on its own and expand
