For anybody wondering: Start+L = Saves; Start+R = Loads; Select+Dpad (each direction is a save-slot that you select). Also a useful information from the readme.txt "Savestates will only work with games that don't have special chips like SuperFX/SA-1/CX4, this is because the firmware loads another FPGA file for those games and it doesn't have necessary configuration to run custom code."
@HighFuel906 жыл бұрын
I dont think I understand what you mean by this.... START + L = Save, You have to select the slot as well? are the 2 separate button combos?
@decebal01US6 жыл бұрын
@@HighFuel90 I don't know exactly which slot is "taken" when saving a savestate for the first time (maybe its "Up" on the D-Pad). But when you are in a game just pres the "Start" button on you controller and the "L" button at the same time do a savestate. You can load that savestate again by pressing "Start" and the "R" button at the same time. If you want to save to a different slot just use one of the 4 directional D-Pad keys and the "Select" button. For example, hit the "Select" button and press "Right" on the D-Pad. That is now a savestate slot. You can do the same with "Down" and "Left" I think you have 4 savestates in total (same number as the directional keys). There is a Readme that comes with the new custom firmware, linked in the description, with a better explanation :)

In case anyone is wondering, like I was at first, the default Save State function button combination for the program is Start + L, and the default Load State is Start + R. It's in the readme, but can be easy to miss if you get this up and running quickly. This new program is really a game-changer for me, as my kids don't give me the time blocks I used to have, so using Save State for incremental gains is essential!

Got it up and running, thanks alot for everyone that made this possible, this is a huge help to me on the smw rom hacks and speed running works great! Love it! Also if you hit pause a few times after loading a state the music usually comes back fine.

You cant use savestates and the in game hook at the same time at the moment. So if you like being able to use a button combo in-game to reset to the SDSNES menu, you need to disable the save states function.

The sd2snes is the best flashcart ever made. So glad they are still making progress long may it continue!
@PabstOban6 жыл бұрын
Happy they are developing this. I was kinda surprised they didn’t already have this... but I guess with this one, they were more concerned with utilizing the FPGA for loading supplemental chip cores.
@HoudiniFontmeister6 жыл бұрын
the creator said the hardware is incapable of Savestates without the audio issue. He said the audio is handled by the audio chip and would require offloading the audio to either the FPGA or a separate cpu onboard the flashcart itself. Neither can handle it the FPGA cannot handle the complex audio processing and there is no secondary chip. unless they drop a separate cpu for audio in the future its not going away.
@Eyedunno5 жыл бұрын
No way that music stuff gets fixed. That's an issue with how the SNES's sound hardware loads music, and the Nakitech Game Saver had the same issue. If you want really good save states for classic consoles, go with emulation, and that's the one area where I think emulation is better.
@Ver2ion4 жыл бұрын
Its just because there's no code telling the game to change music throughout the level so if somehow the music gets changed its not going to change back until a point where the game code actually tells the game to change(new level etc)

Do save states work better if you save during a pause screen? A similar issue you mentioned happens on the Mega Everdrive, but I usually get around the problem by pausing before saving.

I added the save state firmware, but it caused my sd2snes to become buggy. I can't wait until it becomes stable.
@KoachKrab1276 жыл бұрын
Seems pretty buggy. I tried it out with Super Punch-Out!!, which I would love to be able to practice speedrunning with save states, but the game often crashes when loading different screens. For example, when the fight is over and goes back to the menu screen, if the music is messed up, the menu screen does not load and the game crashes.

I don’t understand. What is the difference of playing an emulator vs using this device with the SNES besides you are actually using the original console? Does it mean less lag?
@ZpinalX6 жыл бұрын
If you want to enjoy emulator more just buy a snes shaped usb controller and then there is almost no difference from original hardware
@vorenge6 жыл бұрын
Hey Nathan, overall there is less lag and graphics and sound true to their original form because the game code is being interpreted by the game console itself. Where that changes some is with Super FX games and SA-1 games because a part of the code is being emulated or interpreted on the SD2SNES; although that's very few games - maybe 30 at best, haven't counted.

Thanks Vorenge for actually answering my question! I really appreciate the response. I have a Raspberry PI 3 B+ and emulate on there with RetroPie but I still prefer playing on original hardware. I didn't know if the "feeling" of using this or something like the Everdrive was more authentic vs emulation on RetroPie
@vorenge6 жыл бұрын
@@nfdavis1 I would say the feeling is different, although nuanced. This feels like playing the original game on original hardware, although if you didn't grow up playing SNES, it gets more difficult to notice. I have a Pi setup also and can feel the difference and even see /hear a rendering difference between my Pi and real hardware. I use RGB on my SNES to get some pretty amazing detail on my old console. I have a lot of the games I use with the SD2SNES, but it's convenient for swapping the games around without digging into the library and being able to play import translated games and homebrew hack games is fun on real hardware also.

Still holding out on a SD2SNES purchase. Hoping Analogue gives us an update that includes this. Not holding my breath though... surely if they were going to do it they would have done it by now. Maybe the SD2SNES gets a price drop during the wait?

I doubt the SD2SNES will get an official price drop but I could be wrong. As for the Super NT getting support for these features, I doubt it as from what I hear Kevtris isn't working on the Super NT anymore. I think getting an SD2SNES might well be the only way.
