I am a relatively new SDA. As a deaconess, I was asked to prepare the communion bread for this Sabbath. It never occurred to me that the actual making of the bread was equally reverent and spiritual as the act of communion itself. Thank you Vicki Rutherford so much for posting this video (all 3 parts!). What a blessed teaching! I pray that I can complete this task humbly, gratefully, and with my eyes upon Jesus. I look forward to sharing these videos with our Women's Ministry. Again, thank you for allowing God to use you to teach others!

I was going to use the video just to make bread for the primary B sabbath school class. After hearing what the meaning of each ingredient and the processes means. It became the closing talk given to the children and a few parents, along with the pastor. Vicki, the communion bread will never be viewed as "just" some bread. Thank you for sharing this. The bread turned out great as a side note.

Wonderful! I'm so glad this was helpful. I am an elementary teacher, so I'm thrilled that you found this useful for kids! We used this method once at an Agape Feast and had each table of 8-10 people make their own bread (smaller portions). The pastor even ground the wheat kernels as part of the process. Anything we can do to help people make the symbolic connections with what can sometimes seem ancient ritual will help keep this precious service fresh and meaningful.

Sean Chaney We Seventh Day Adventists do indeed believe in the God of Holy Scripture Father Son and Holy Spirit. Three in One.
@mrs.rbvsda26374 жыл бұрын
@@seanchaney3086, thank you for bringing this up. Oh, yes, we most certainly do believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - all three were present at creation and at Christ's baptism, to list a couple of times in Scripture. I am so thankful for the ministry of ALL three in my life. My church history knowledge is limited, but I am told that in the earlier years of our denomination, the doctrine of the Trinity was debated strongly, many feeling it was derived from Roman Catholicism. But sometime in the 1940's, I believe, the doctrine was officially accepted as one of our Fundamental Beliefs. I was surprised to learn this because I have always believed in the Three-in-One Godhead. I also am hearing stories that there is a small group of our members who are challenging this belief again. One of the things I appreciate about my SDA church is that we, as members, are encouraged to search the Scriptures for ourselves, to ask questions, to live our lives as we feel the Holy Spirit (yes) guides us. We have Fundamental Beliefs that all of us agree on (for the most part), but among Adventists there is a wide range of application in much of the "traditions" of the church. We are a Scripture-reading and memorizing group of people! How about you?
@seanchaney30864 жыл бұрын
@@mrs.rbvsda2637 I think much of that was do to pressured adaptation, rather than a change of heart. If the SDA wants to come all the way, they should renounce Ellen White as a "Prophetess." In that regard, not much is distinguished from LDS and JW.

Just a helpful note. There is a difference between Olive Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Don’t use extra virgin as this has the concern expressed in the video about a strong flavor. But regular olive oil or “light” olive oil does not have a strong flavor, it cooks well, also has a high smoke point. This oil works great with this recipe.

Hello! It's me - Vicki! We are today 4 weeks into the COVID-19 pandemic here in Washington state. My church is doing Communion this Sabbath online. Members will be making their own bread at home, so we reduced the recipe and adjusted it for plain all-purpose flour and regular whole wheat flour, since most people won't have whole wheat pastry flour. For a small, snack-size zippered bag use: 1heaping Tbsp of oil (let it slightly overflow), 1/4 tsp. salt, just under 1 Tbsp of water. Mix together in the baggie. Add 1/4 c. of flour (either sort) and knead from outside the bag. Follow the same directions as the large version, but watch it while it bakes. This mix also works with most gluten-free flours as well. Aren't you convicted that we are seeing the "labor pains" that Christ told us about? Our churches and schools are "closed" for humanitarian and moral reasons, our state governor stated tonight. Wow... We are cooperating in this endeavor for the sake of our own members, children, and the people in our communities. It is the right thing to do. But I can see a soon-coming future when regulations like this will ask us to defy God and go along or stand like Daniel and his three friends for the truth, like the apostles, like the faithful in the Middle Ages. It's going to be our turn soon. Are we ready? Even so, Come! Lord, Jesus! I can hardly wait! But oh, how we need His peace and promises to get us through. God bless you all! Stay true!

Sister Vicki...l used your recipe again today for the "umteenth" time. Like l said before, it's great and simple enough. Like you I also consider it a prayerful and spiritual baking experience. I do use extra virgin olive oil however, which is still quite tasty. I even had a young boy ask for any leftovers, which l sadly refused because it was dedicated bread. (BTW how do you dispose of consecrated leftovers?) I was in a rush today because l have so many things on my plate these days l needed a quick presentation. Do you think there could be a presentation that "cuts to the chase" so "he may run that readeth it" (Habakkuk 2:2,3).😄
@mrs.rbvsda26374 жыл бұрын
Dear Clarence, Ha! Ha! Several people at our church have asked for "leftovers," too! But you are right; the ones that have been on the Lord's table and have been blessed for this service are not for common consumption. EVO oil is perfectly fine. No worries. We, the deaconesses at our church, put the leftover bread from the altar in a paper bag. One of us who has a fireplace at home or a fire pit in the back yard puts the bag of bread in a hot fire and watches until it is consumed. I think it's similar to the burnt offerings in the old tabernacle setting. Any juice that was blessed is removed from the little cups and poured carefully into a pitcher. A deaconess takes it outside and pours it out on the ground at the base of a tree. In my mind, like Christ's blood flowing down from the cross. So much symbolism... and we miss it by not making those applications! Just like the Hebrews before and after Christ missed all the symbolism in the sanctuary services. A shorter version of this 3-part series should be coming. Now that we are all "quarantined" at home (this is April 2, 2020 and we are honoring the COVID-19 restrictions here in our state of Washington), we have made up our minds to make a shorter version, simplified without all the talk-talk. Ha! So, you can hold me to it! Thank you for your comment.

@@mrs.rbvsda2637 Thank you so much, dear sister, for that good information. I will be looking forward to the other version. Since we have a small international church here in Busan, S. Korea, l have been the fill-in "pastor". No one else from the other cultures is acquainted with the recipe or the proper methods of holy Communion. So instead of buying flat-bread wheat crackers like l used to do, l decided to make my own. My take on the matter is that Christianity is not a matter of convenience. When Jesus spilled His blood, it was not the convenient thing to do. It was an infinite sacrifice. (BTW we Americans, some Filipinos and Koreans, here in Korea are fortunate enough to be publicly worshipping again). I used to take the leftovers and dump them on the side of the church. Or l would simply dump them in the garbage and pour the remaining juice down the drain. But from now on l will follow your suggestion. It seems like a wonderful New Testament symbolic act. God bless.

Cherry W , hmmm... difficult to say. Did you use whole wheat PASTRY flour or regular whole wheat? One-half cup oil and one-third cup water? Perhaps your cups of flour were packed a bit tighter than mine? If we claim that Jesus said we should take bread to remember his death, then how did we end up with wafer and cracker ?. God is specific, isnt He ? If it is meant to be bread, then why is it not bread ? How often should it be taken ? What is the recipe ? Who's hands made it ? How do we use a natural or literal piece of bread to connect with Him who is Spirit ? How does a piece of literal bread, trigger your memory of His death ? How does it enhance your spiritual life ?

I liked what you said while you made the bread. But I do believe we should stick to the traditional recipe as we honor this tradition for Him and not for ourselves. I pray that you are not led astray by the false teachings of Ellen G White. We were warned about false prophets coming into the church and were told that even if 1 prophecy is spoken and does not come to pass as that prophet said it would that we know the prophecy was not from GOD. That woman was deceived and is deceiving many others. And it does not honor God very well to elevate the writings of that woman to the authority of the Bible which in whole is God breathed. Many of her writings were inspiring but in no way completely original. She based many things she wrote off of the Bible. Which should always be the final authority of Truth. I do not tell you this to offend you but to encourage you to read God's word more than you read the teachings of Ellen G White who gave several false prophecies and therefore according to the word of GOD was a false prophet whose writings cannot be a trusted source. I would love to celebrate the Sabbath with other believers but I'm afraid that if I go to an SDA church they will be teaching from the writings of Ellen G White as much as they preach the WORD of GOD which is unacceptable and not profitable to my Spirit which is only hungry for the TRUTH..
