That's an incredibly clean recording for 1977... Nice bass and ambient reverb too.

That's because it is recorded 1977. They took a few microphones, put them in front of the organ and started the organ so the microphones just recorded what was audible in front of the organ and banned it onto some analogue tape. Including all the flaws and imperfections (noise from the mechanics, pitch variations, each pipe is at different location, some side-effects from the bellows.... it's a real music instrument! Each note sound slightly different). They may have recorded it straight into a final stereo mix, using only two microphones, skipping the mixing part, because the "stem-mixing" is already done by the organ (even if the drums are a bit weak or the pipes are a bit strong I think. But it is supposed to sound like this engineers who made the organ). If it would have been recorded in 2021 instead, audio engineers wouldn't accept how the organ plays it and it would have got all its spirit squeezed out by a bunch of digital audio grinders applied individually to every single pipe. Or they would have skip the organ entirely and turn the piano-roll into a midi file before because the organ sounds too "old-fashioned" to the audio engineers. The result would sound as boring as this: modern flat bass, flat overdone stereo arrangement, no dynamics, artifical sampled drums, boring reverb-less vocal-frequency-boosted mids, no low-mids and harsh over-sterilized treble. When it comes to these organs, I prefer "just aim one single good mic to the organ and record that beast"-approach over any remixed/edited recording :). Even the microphone of a good camcorder does a decent job in most cases, as long as that camcorder isn't moving around during the recording (this usually introduces ugly flanging effects).^^

@@Wichtelchen2006 Whilst I almost agree with your sentiment there, more mics DOES mean more choice in how the final mix sounds. 😎 However, as somebody who has made recordings of several organs using just a single XY stereo mic (stereo is the key here- a single mono mic just wouldn't cut it) recording in this way does sound satisfactory to the casual listener and, after all, these organs were designed to be heard from the front and that's how we hear them when listening to them in-person. If you see my videos from the Diss Organ Festivals, these were recorded in this way using a separate mic/sound recorder to the camera and dubbed in afterwards. The sound recordings alone sound great- especially when there was no background noise from crowds/kids/traffic.

Certes c'est un gros instrument, mais la prise de son est un peu trop éloignée, dommage.
