So much packed into this video. It is almost maddening to imagine how much manual calculating post Civil War snipers must have been trying to do with a little pencil and scratch pad to record their dope. It's certainly reasonable in today's world to send a sniper team to gather data in different climates without much fuss. I'd guess that anything pre-1990's though must have involved a lot of on the fly guesswork when guys were dropped into a strange environment with a target list and expected to score the hit.

The hand calculations and inherent errors of poorly fit models (older BC) would have made me call it quits. That's probably why "Kentucky windage" became so popular.... and with an experienced shooter, it also became effective. Thanks for watching and posting Aaron.

Don't forget that the speed of sound changes with environmental conditions. 4dof uses mach curves not bc. As your speed changes your efficiency of your bullet changes

Correct. And that is an advantage of both Hornady 4DOF and Lapua 6DOF. At the same time, the effect of these variables are slight. Thanks for watching.

Have you ever reloaded for the 45-70 and, if so, do you have any videos on that?

No, sorry I have not reloaded for that cartridge. I reload for the .30-30 but not .45-70.

@@sdkweber okay thank you. I'm just a fan of the 45-70 and I'm looking for some in depth videos on reloading for it. Do you have any on loading for the 30-30?

@@jmc041071 I have not done any videos on reloading for the .30-30, but it is really no different than reloading for any other rifle caliber. I guess, the only difference would be to take great care when working up the load to ensure the rifle (in my case a lever action Winchester) functions perfectly with that load.

@@sdkweber I figured the process would be the same I just like watching videos of reloading. I love lever guns but unfortunately don't have one yet. Hopefully soon. And I'm very Interested in reloading. But when I start, it will have to be with the basics at first.
