What an amazing documentary. It really touched me, especially after seeing the face of this young man come to life. It's sad that his cause of death was not able to be determined, and that there was no old paperwork found that could've identified him by name. I wanted to suggest maybe putting a photo of the facial drawing on the tombstone. There is no telling who might visit, recognize the face, and might have a link to the past with old photos from ancestors he was part of.

My grandpa's dad was in on gold mining ⛏️ on Native Americans land , he lead party of miners Captain Thomas Russell . He was on hunting party when Calvary ran them off land arrested some of them . My Grandpa's dad got away with rest of hunting party. The black Hills of South Dakota has the story in it . Thanks for your video . God bless one and all.

I sort of regret that I only learned about deadwood thru the viewing of the HBO show,I knew about the main characters but nothing of the town that sprang up. Why where the caskets so small ? They look like children’s caskets. This program is amazing, I love history and this really answers a lot of questions. But still those caskets look so Small . Like only 3 feet long . So glad that you are investigating this .

Much of the gambling revenue from Deadwood casinos must be used for historical preservation. That is how gambling in Deadwood was sanctioned by the state of SD when gambling was allowed abt 35 years ago. I learned all this while visiting Deadwood recently!

The problem with the woman who did the reconstruction saying that he was well off as a child but did not have as much money in later life because of the difference in dental work is a flawed idea. The lower quality of dental work could have been because that was al that was available where he was. Do you really think that you would have highly trained dentists in an 'outlaw' mining camp when they could have made just as much money in civilisation?

He would not ware pants or shoes because when a body was in the coffin you only see him from the wist down. To dress a body completely is not necessary. Try to get boots on a body. For DNA they should post in on GEDCom. And they are spit not swab.

You mean you see the body only from the waist up to the head resting on a pillow. The waist and down would not be seen if the coffin was a 2 section top. In the 1800`s they used pine boxes for the most part as coffins, and the lid,or "top" was 90% of the time just a solid, unbroken cover. So bodies on display were clothed from head to toe most all the time. If boots were a problem to put on they simply slit the back of the boot open to slip the foot on. This period of time also was huge as far as dead bodies propped up to look like they were still living , in pictures of the deceased sitting with members of the rest of the family in many cases. This was a common occurance for years. It fell out of favor, and became to be considered crude and dangerous to pose with a corpse that was possibly carrying a disease,and ,or beginning to rapidly decompose.
